Is guitar the most popular instrument?

I really think that the guitar is the most popular musical instrument in the world.  Ask any young guy if he's ever tried playing and most will tell you they have.  Yes, I know that women play it, too, but guitar seems like a guy thing to me.  Does anyone agree with me?

I would guess there are more surgical instruments in the world than there are guitars. But I couldn't say for sure, I haven't been everywhere yet.
