Your favorite Ringo movie?
« on: December 16, 2008, 01:34:03 AM »

I have to say I've never watched a non-Beatles Ringo movie.  (Although I have seen his wife Barbara in a James Bond film.)

Can someone recommend any favorite Ringo films to me?  (And a brief summary would help, too.)

Thanks! :)

Well, The Magic Christian is certainly one of my favorites.  The incredibly wealthy Sir Guy Grand (Peter Sellers) adopts Ringo Starr and they set out to prove that everyone has their price.

Will you walk away from a fool and his money?

Look for Sir Laurence Harvey doing a striptease during his soliloquy in Hamlet

That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin?....

And, of course, there's Caveman with Barbara Bach, Shelley Long and Dennis Quaid.  A fringe benefit with this movie is by the time the film ends, you'll have learned a new language.  You'll know what "Atouk aloonda Lana," "macha pooka" and "Tonda gwee ool" mean.

I haven't seen these two, but I hear that The Caveman is really good and that The Magic Christian has naughty bits in it (which is really good too! ;) )

Here's a short Ringo Film - The Cooler

^ oh yeah, The Cooler ;D That's a funny one. Poor Ringo, stuck in a cooler, keeps trying to escape but always gets back there...

I heard Caveman us funny... I saw little clips from there, on Youtube. They were cute, but some were.... naughty, I suppose :B. But funny :)
Can't really find Ringo-movies in the video stores down here though...

from http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0823592/

Alice in Wonderland (1985) (his last (if I guess) movie, he had a short part in this movie, so it's not worth to watch.) anyway here's the clip of it:
u6wNu_YLndw

Give My Regards to Broad Street (1984) (Ringo makes a guest appearance in this Paul McCartney film about an ex-Beatle who searches for the missing tapes for his new album. well it's not even a movie for Ringo, he was acting himself, same with Macca, Ringo just took a small job in this movie, so it's nothing special, but for Macca it was a great movie.)
i_f0D-pn0mo

Caveman (1981) (A true classic containing only 15 "words," this movie is a spoof of movies about prehistoric times and dinosaurs. Though not exactly Jurasic Park, it is a lot of fun to watch Ringo, who co-stars with Barbara Bach, Randy Quaid, John Matuszak, Shelly Long, Jack Gilford, and Avery Schreiber. Ringo learns how to stand erect and discovers fire, the wheel and music (drums - of course).)

The Kids Are Alright (1979) (Ringo makes an appearance in this movie about the Who's 15-year career.)

Sextette ( 1978 ) (Ringo co-stars with Mae West in this movie about an aging rock star whose ex-husbands are trying to get a tape that contains information about their relationships with her. Ringo portrays one of her ex-husbands, European director Laslo Karozny.)
LiwNYZK9Iyk

The Last Waltz ( 1978 ) (Ringo makes a guest appearance in Martin Scorsese's film of the Band's last concern, held at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom.)

Lisztomania (1975) (Ringo plays the Pope in what can best be described as a musical version of The Exorcist.)
WrjkIutogNI (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

Son of Dracula (1974) (Ringo plays the 200-year-old mystic/magician Merlin. Count Downe, the son of Dracula, is about to take the throne as king of the Netherword when he falls in love with and marries a mortal. Title role went to Ringo's close personal friend Harry Nilsson. It should be noted that Ringo is godfather to at least one of Harry's children. btw Keith Moon and John Bonham were also in that movie, too cool, isn't it?)
xBa404fNznM (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

That'll Be the Day (1973) (Ringo plays a rough-and-tumble lad named Mike who works at a fair ground with lead character Jim Maclaine (portrayed by David Essex). Mike cheats a boy out of his change on one of the amusement rides. The boy and some of his friends return later and severely beat Mike. Jim witnesses the attack but chooses to run away rather than help his friend. This movie garnered high praise from reviewers for its gritty look at the underside of life.)
here two clips off Ringo in that movie:

Born To Boogie (1972) (Ringo makes his directing debut in this movie about a T. Rex concert. Ringo, along with piano pounder Elton John and Who drummer Keith Moon, makes a cameo appearance.)

hey look, even Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) wacthes Ringo's directed movies, hehehe!

200 Motels (1971) (A truly strange movie in which Ringo portrays both legendary musician Frank Zappa and Larry the Dwarf . The movie is set in a town called Centerville, which features a concentration camp where the musicians live.)
YHxWXeK4KJA (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
Fkcms4CCUe0 (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

Blindman (1970) (Ringo, tired of playing "lovable" characters, portrays a vicious kidnapper being hunted by a blind gunslinger in this spaghetti western. guys, this movie is for real western movie fans... this one is perfect for you, my personally favourite Ringo movie. his character is such a bad-ass and the movie kicks the s*it out of your head. sorry, but the film is rated PG, because of some nudity and violence scenes, but the movie is still kick ass  8) )

watch the full movie here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4057008906422590307&ei=GXpNSeLFLJfE2AKY3YT1Cg&q=blindman+western&emb=1 (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
012Ie3s3lG4 (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

The Magic Christian (1969) (Ringo plays the adopted son of the fabulously wealthy Sir Guy Grand (played by Peter Sellers). Premise of the movie is that people are so greedy they will do anything for money. Best scene was Ringo sitting in the car doing facial exercises, including the silent scream.)
WaLMsZU6NaY (Embedding disabled, limit reached) there are many clips in youtube of its movie

Candy ( 1968 ) (Ringo made his non-Beatle acting debut in this film, portraying a Mexican gardener who does everything he can think of to win the favor of a woman named Candy. His competitors include Richard Burton (who plays a professor) and Marlin Brando (who plays an Eastern guru). well the movie was dreadful, but it's really worth to see when you know what kind of people starred there: MARLON BRANDO, Richard Burton, James Coburn, John Huston, Walter Matthau, boxing-legend Sugar Ray Robinson and of course the most important - RINGO STARR)
XghPOP2b9mw (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

in my opinion "Blindman" was the greatest Ringo movie, of course if you like to watch those western movies  :)

I grew up watching Caveman as a kid, about 10 years before I even knew who the Beatles were!!! LOL...

I guess that means Ringo (aka "Atuk") was the first Beatle I ever knew! That seems SO strange to me now, though!

I have Alice in Wonderland, and I've seen bits and pieces of Caveman.
My boyfriend wants to sit me through Caveman, but hasn't yet :P.

I'd never even heard of any of the rest until just now!
