Why Don't We do it in the Road
« on: June 07, 2007, 09:00:26 AM »

Sorry if there is already a thread on this- I'm really bad at searching threads!

But I was wondering about the song 'Why Dont we do it in the Road' - and the story behind it. I read somewhere that Paul's idea for it was something to do with the Rolling Stones? Anyone got more info?

Anyway strange little song- if not a little pointless! I think it shows off Paul's voice rather well though  :)

Apparently, when they were in India he saw two monkies copulating in the middle of the street. Simple as that!

I hate that song. It may rank in my bottom 5 Beatle tunes ever.

The song dosen't seem to go anywhere, it may have sounded better if it was
improved but it was quite a pointess album filler. :-/ That's why i have trouble with the
White Album. there's was too many filler's on it. Wild Honey Pie..

The british blues rock thing was exploding in 68.  Always thought that Macca, in typical Macca fashion, was just showing that he could do it too (as did Lennon with Yer Blues)
I like the sprawl of The White Album. An attempt to do Sgt Pepper II could have been dodgy. I remember reading that after Pepper people were asking "what will they do nex?." Someone said they heard a rumour they were going to set The Bible to music, or Lord Of The Rings. Good on them, that after releasing what was accclaimed even then as the greatest album ever, they release an unpretentious anything-goes no-fancy-cover take-it-or-leave- it album. Perfect for the place and time.

Am I the only one who thinks The White Stripes have based their whole career on this song?

I like the early take on the Alternate The Beatles album.  Very bluesy and a great vocal by Paul.

It's just a great dirty little ditty with Paul's great vocals & lots of attitude.

I've grown to like it, especially since this thread started! Listened to a couple of bootleg versions, and yes, as Wayne says, it's a dirty little number.

It's one of my favourite 'random silly songs'. I always digged Mccartney's different phrasing and deliverance on the main line of the song. Like Kevin mentions, it fits well with the mood and track-listing of the White Album.
