C'mon, Kathleen.  Legendary North Dakota is very cosmopolitan with its bustling urban centers like Fargo...

Well, the photos you posted do illustrate one good thing about living here, Barry: There's almost no traffic. And it IS better than rural Nevada.  ;)

I added a sound hole rosette to my Bakersfield guitar.

Sonny James, Pat Boone, Barbara Fairchild, Johnny Bench, Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Johnny Rodriguez, and George "Goober" Lindsey don't think Hee Haw's jokes are corny.

One of my favorite segments on Hee Haw!   ;D

I'm happy that my new guitar is called The Bakersfield.  It's an homage to Buck Owens who helped pioneer the Bakersfield Sound in the 1950's and 60s which was in sharp contrast to the heavily orchestrated Nashville Sound.  The Bakersfield Sound genre of country music gave rise to country rock and groups like CCR and The Eagles.

Here is probably the first Bakersfield Sound recording...

You know that guy who was always crying? He appeared in this clip. They called him Weepin’ Willie but his real name was Harry “King” Cole. He was the master of ceremonies for Boots Randolph at the county fair in Clearfield, PA the summer I turned 10. I got an autograph from old Harry King Cole who probably was a merry old soul when he wasn’t in character.  ;D

City folk don't know what they're missing, that's for sure.  County fairs are great fun.  I go to the Orange County Fair just about every year.  It's about a twenty minute drive from the country house on the lake.  I found out about it when I worked training standardbreds.  John Patterson Sr. would always have an entry in The Grand Circuit Races at Historic Track in Goshen...

The Grand Circuit Races were held during fair week.  I still have my Minerva Horsemen's stopwatch I used the three years I worked at the track...

Cherish that autograph, Kelley.  Characters like Harry “King” Cole are disappearing quickly.

Yep, Buck Owens could certainly play guitar.  Don Rich originally played the fiddle in the early days of Buck Owens and The Buckaroos.  He taught Don Rich guitar and he soon exceeded Buck's skills.  Buck Owens was devastated when Don Rich passed on in 1974.  "He was like a brother, a son, and a best friend. Something I never said before, maybe I couldn't, but I think my music life ended when he died.  Oh yeah, I carried on and I existed, but the real joy and love, the real lightning and thunder is gone forever."

Buck Owens no doubt got a kick out of being mentioned in CCR's Lookin' Out My Back Door...

Giant doin' cartwheels, statue wearin' high heels
Look at all the happy creatures dancin' on the lawn
Dinosaur Victrola list'nin' to Buck Owens
Doo, doo, doo, lookin' out my back door

And Buck Owens liked The Eagles.  He even put out an album singing Eagles songs...

I do, Barry. And I cherish so many wonderful memories of fairs as a kid and an adult. I’m not sure exactly where it was but my cousin took Kelsie and I to a huge fair in New Jersey. It was a bit of a drive from Englishtown but well worth it. It always amazes me how long these fairs have been happening. The Erie County Fair near Buffalo will be marking their bicentennial next summer!

For years I've admired my sister's copy of Linda's Pictures she keeps on the coffee table in her den.  I find myself looking through the book each time I visit.  Well, I finally purchased a copy for myself...

What's special about mine is that it was inscribed by Linda...
