Revolver vs. Sgt. Pepper's?
« on: April 11, 2006, 01:35:33 AM »

I was in another forum and they made a HUGE discussion on this, and I thought I'd share it here, too.

Sorry if it has been done before. :X

Anyways, pure and simply, tell us:

Do you prefer Revolver or Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band?

My opinion:

I personally prefer Sgt. Pepper's by a mile. Revolver's good, but it's no match for Sgt. Pepper's. In my opinion, anyway.

Sgt. Pepper's has a greater flow, all the songs sound better than Revolver's songs. In all cases.

Revolver has more psychedelic influences, and, when it goes to psychadelia, Revolver superes and in that I agree. But psychadelia does not necessarily make an album great. It IS great, but the psychadelia only contributes to a part of the greatness.

I believe there is a wider variety of creative ideas and sound on Sgt. Pepper's and a more inventive quality of sound. Not only are the ideas are more creative, the sound each song has is also very unique and creative itself.

Well this is hard, Sgt Peppers was the first album I listened to and I love it. When I listen to it it's more like a story to me than Revolver. However I'm going to have to say Revolver beats it just barely as the songs in my opinion are more consistent throughout.

All time favourite - Revolver. It's more like Help-Rubber Soul-Revolver to be honest.

In the other forum, someone used the exact same expression as you - "consistent".

And I still don't you know what either of you meant by that...

It's is just that each song on Revolver is good, good, good, good etc. Whereas Peppers may have a few mediocre songs followed by this absolutely superb song eg. A Day in the life,it is really hard to judge these two albums because I have a really big soft spot for Pepper's as it was the album that introduced me to the beatles.

In fact, I believe in BOTH albums all songs are excellent. Yes, in both albums - all songs are spectacular.

Here's how I would rank the songs of both albums:

1. A Day In The Life
2. Lovely Rita
3. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise included)
4. Tomorrow Never Knows
5. Elanor Rigby
6. Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!
7. She Said She Said
8. Good Day Sunshine
9. Yellow Submarine
10. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
11. For No One
12. She's Leaving Home
13. I'm Only Sleeping
14. Taxman
15. Doctor Robert
16. When I'm Sixty-Four
17. And Your Bird Can Sing
18. With A Little Help From My Friends
19. Got To Get You Into My Life
20. Good Morning Good Morning
21. Here, There and Everywhere
22. Getting Better
23. I Want To Tell You
24. Fixing a Hole
25. Within You Without You
26. Love You To

I'm glad that She Said She Said is the 7th for you, being so many great tunes in that list ... after all, it's in my top-10!  ;D

I like Sgt. Peppers quite a bit more. It all flows together so well. I can listen to the album all the way through everytime I listen to it. Ocassionally on Revolver I'll skip a few tracks such as Yellow Submarine, and Tommorow Never Knows. Plus A Day In The Life is on Sgt. Peppers.

In recent polls (television & magazine) Revolver has come out higher than Sgt. Pepper.

Revolver is their greatest album from the first song to the last that they have ever done. Maybe that anybody has ever done for that matter.

Apples and Chainsaws. Each album was so different, it's hard to compare.
