Thunderclap Newman
« on: August 20, 2008, 01:29:42 AM »

I am sure most of you have heard Thunderclap Newman's classic song, "Something in the Air" I think it's a shame that they were a 1 hit wonder as their "Hollywood Dream" record is fantastic even though it didn't perform well in the charts.

I have been in contact with Jim Avery (bass player for Thunderclap Newman) in regards to the Jimmy project and he told me what a typical setlist for TN was.

SET LIST: LADY MADONNA (slow funky version)
                TWELVE BAR JAM
WILHOMENA (b side of Something in the Air)
WATER MUSIC (Andy Newman's piano playing)
                SOMETHING IN THE AIR
(According to Jim the sets were short as all anybody wanted to hear was "Something In The Air")

A slow funky version of Lady Madonna would have been awesome to hear! It's sad to see that the sets were so short because all anybody wanted to hear was Something in the Air  :(

This is an interesting video as 2 members of Thunderclap Newman, Jack McCulloch (Jimmy's brother) and Andy "Thunderclap" Newman share their stories of Thunderclap Newman's gig on the day that Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.

I listened to the album in the 70's but must admit to being not very impressed. Nothing else on the scale of Something In The Air.

Great group and a great album.
Shame they gave up.
