TV is Dead
« on: March 16, 2008, 06:52:46 PM »

I don't know weather it's an age thing , but i've gone right off Telly , the more channels there are the worse it seems to get ?
Apart from David Attenborough's recent " Life In Cold Blood " and  " Shamless " i'm hardly watching the box at all .
Anyone else think TV is a dead loss ? or are there some programme's i should be checking out , Someone told me  " Kevin and Stacey " is brilliant ? (beammeup) (smoking3)

Nope. TV's dead.

Dead, defunct, deceased, done, toast, over: an ex-medium. You should see the crap they dish out here: pure schmuckwork of the lowest over focus grouped order. See the American Idol thread, for example....

i know exactly what you mean DaveRam! TV is just complete rubbish these days,
the only show i've wathed recently are Ashes to Ashes (which is pretty good) & nothing
else! i do have a tv but never watch it, i don't know why i have one really!  :P
i find that Entertainment on television is dead these days, i love all these old
tv shows from the past & a lot of comedies, but nothing really draws me in.
another thing is that i just find tv genrally annoying! ??) is it me or do the adverts come
on too loud in-between programmes? ::)
i have one of those digital boxes & i now find every channel complete tosh!!  :D

everything on tv is about gossip or reality tv.
the only show I really watch is House or like bio shows. or Heroes and Bones. but I do like Award shows.

TV is poo...No offence to the U.S. but we are following with too many channels of ads in the UK and Europe. Call me old fashioned but I liked a few channels that the whole nation gathered round to watch. Maybe brain washing but a good sense of identity in society at least....It's all fragmenting aaargghh! lol

Well that was a little insulting wasn't it?  :-/ And a little condescending too I might add.   :P

Ooop...! Sorry; I got carried away with my own schtick (it happens every four minutes or so) and wasn't paying attention- I should have said "see the videos posted in the American Idol thread." I'm still trying to get them out of my mind....

i still enjoy TV as much as I ever did, and don't mind US TV. They've given us the best shows of the last few decades - Friends, frazier, ER, The Simpsons, The Sapranos, Seinfeld.....
TV now - I really enjoy Lost, Gavin and Stacey, My Name Is Earl, tons of history stuff on, Top Gear, Jamie Oliver , plenty of good UK drama.
I think some of you are being ruined by excessive choice. I only have terrestial, so can't endlessly channel surf looking for something "perfect." You're more tempted to give shows a go.

Help is on its way: TV on demand is coming to your house pretty soon. I must admit that I already enjoy an evening 'youtubing' better than watching telly.

Kevin you have said a lot of good stuff there, I love earl, gear & mears a but I go along with Bobber on this. Problem is, my girlfriend always watches the soaps anyway when it is on which is depressing enough. lol

I go with DVD's mostly myself; and, like Bobber says, Youtube's often a good bet for material.

Pushing Daisies and Ugly Betty are the only two shows I really follow. Aside from that, it's just Idol (my guilty pleasure) and re-runs of old sitcoms. I also watch Bewitched on DVD!

I wish somebody would reissue The Prisoner. Haven't seen it in years. The old ITC catalog was released over here by A&E (and included Python, The Avengers, and a lot of Gerry Anderson), but I stupidly didn't buy a set and now it's gone. I suspect somebody else has the copyright now.
