I don't know why they were called the Ding A Ling Sisters, they just were.

I had a crush on the one in the white uniform.

You’re funny, Dr. Barry.

I've been down in the dumps lately.  A friend I grew up with and played in a band with died unexpectedly of a sudden heart attack.  The medics couldn't save him.  He was a year older than me.

We weren't buddies in later years but I have lots of good memories.  Death really seems completely senseless to me but what can you do?  It doesn't matter what you think about it, it's still inevitable.

Oh well, la de da - "Put on a happy face."  (Remember that song?)

I'm so sorry for your loss, LocoMo. My mother died very unexpectedly, too, so I can identify with the shock of a sudden death.

No need to "put on a happy face" (I remember that tune!); you're allowed to grieve. I hope you feel better soon.

One more video to illustrate how sad saying goodbye can feel from two singers who long ago said goodbye to us all.

I just found out that the expressions "far out" and "out of sight" predated the 1960's by a good 70 years. Isn't that groovy?

Dickie Moore was a dead hoofer.  Shirley Temple was cookin' with gas.  What a dish!

Dickie Moore was in The Little Rascals...

Shirley Temple didn't pass her audition for The Little Rascals...

He looked like he was going to try to stop being a drip. And as for Shirley, she had a humdinger of a career on her own.

My son got a personalized letter (i.e., not just a pre-stamped flyer) package from Harvard yesterday saying they'd noted his ACT scores and GPA and inviting him to apply and visit.  :)  Of course, for geographical and financial reasons it's out of the question, but he was flattered and I am proud.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist sharing that. Now I'll probably trip and go sprawling down the steps when I leave the apartment, LOL.)

How exciting! I’m proud of him too, having followed his accomplishments these last 8(!) years. Does he have a career in mind yet? I think the sky’s the limit for him.

No need to apologize, Kathy. You’d be the first to offer congratulations to another parent.  :)

^^^^^^^

Thanks so much for your very kind comments, Kelley.  :)  My father just called and thinks he should apply and see what kind of financial aid they offer him. (My income's pretty low, and his father contributes nothing toward the kids' tuition.)

I don't think he really knows what sort of career path he'd like to follow. He's still sleeping (yes, at noon! in all fairness, he does work two jobs), so I am going to pester him when he gets up.  ;)

I agree with your dad, Kathy. Kelsie had a Presidential Scholarship, which paid half her tuition at Alfred.

That's great! Neither of my daughters got a scholarship. Their grades were so-so (As and Bs), but neither of them tests well and their ACT and SAT scores weren't anything to shout about. (I'm still proud of them, of course!)

Your father is offering sound advice, Kathleen.  Private colleges today are doing this very thing to recruit students that they feel will excel.  He should definitely apply.  The "visit" will be a scheduled meeting with members of the admission committee where, amongst other things, financial considerations will be discussed.  Don't let him pass up this offer.  Harvard is interested in him!
