Getting the Beatles Anthology CDs for Christmas!!!
« on: December 14, 2004, 03:19:10 AM »

I already have the DVDs and have watched them many times -- now it's time for the CDs =)

I have a question -- what songs are some that really stand out among all the bootlegs and all? I forgot the name of it, but I know of one song that Ringo had that I heard was very good, but scrapped for unknown reasons in 1965 for Act Naturally.  And from what I remember in the Beatles Anthology DVDs, One After 909 (the early version) sounds fantastic.

What else can I look forward to? Make me drool until Christmas :) :) :)

are you getting all three?

The Ringo song you're talking about is 'If You Got Troubles'.The best songs imo are Help (it's a kick ass live version), Yesterday, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Helter Skelter, And I Love Her, You Know What To Do, And Your Bird Can Sing

I love the early take of One After 909..the guitar in the middle never gets old.
I recently got the Anthology CD1 and it really impressed me..

Like Dreamers Do and Besame Mucho..Mccartney's voice is flawless :)

I've always loved 'Not Guilty'. 'And Your Bird Can Sing' is memorable too with all the laughing in it.

How about the Strawberry Fields trilogy on Anthology 2.  Also, Norwegian Wood and Across The Universe.

Don't forget the George songs on Anthology 3.

Also, the live stuff on Anthology 1 when the Beatles were still excited to play live.

Yea, I'm getting all three.

And Your Bird Can Sing sounded really cool with the awesome harmonies in the Anthology.  I didn't see the LIB Besame Mucho on the tracklist -- maybe I missed it, but that's a cool version.

Besame Mucho is not from the LIB era, it's from the Decca sessions recorded in early 1962, so the song is on the first disc of the first album (it's track 21 I think)

Oh, I knew that -- I just liked that rendition and wished they had put that on, too.

Anthology 2 has a great unreleased track called That Means A Lot. Great performance, and really interesting (1965) production. I also prefer the Anthology version of I'm Looking Through You. It rocks a lot harder, and doesn't have that slightly naff middle section. It's a whole lot more artsy than the Rubber Soul version, in a Why Don't We Do It In The Road type way... probably not 'pop' enough for the time.
