Scrapbook
« on: August 16, 2009, 01:52:16 AM »

I recently got in touch with Jimmy's mom for my project and with the 30th anniversary of J's death coming up (Sept 27, 1979) I was thinking about what I could do to celebrate his life.

I came up with the idea of a scrapbook filled with people's memories of Jimmy. If any of you would like to participate, please leave your memories of Jimmy, name and location in this thread.

The scrapbook will be sent to Mrs. McCulloch.

Yes. I admire your dedication to the project. Although I admit I wasn't really aware of Jimmy and his skills before he joined a certain P. McCartney, I believe he really did contribute massively into the Wings sound in the mid 70's. A great guitarist who died way too young.

I received this wonderful memory of Jimmy from a fan this morning on myspace  :)

I am enclosing a photo I took of Jimmy at Wings over America in Atlanta.  I was an aspiring guitarist, and Jimmy was my hero.  I even got a red gibson sg like him, and even cut my hair like him and had a leather jacket like the one he wore on Venus and Mars.  When Wings finished Band on the Run, both nights in Atlanta my friend and I would go round to the back of the stage at the omni to try and see them come offstage, for this reason, I never actually saw Soily which was the last song.  The second night, Jimmy walked right by me and was already down the stairs when I called his name.  He actually came back up the stairs, listened to my gushing remarks about him, and shook my hand.

I took this picture as he turned to go back downstairs.  Maybe not much of a story, but very important to me.  I still play the guitar and his music and style will be with me forever  Jana Horne, Tampa, Fl

^ That is wonderful!

I'm not a Jimmy expert, but I really like watching and listening to Jimmy in "Rockshow" and also the "Junior's Farm" video. He was so talented.

That's why you have me  ;D I just emailed Rolling Stone, Mojo, Guitarist, Guitar Magazine and NME with the idea of a Jimmy story for the 30th anniversary of his passing.

I think Jimmy was one of the best lead players that Wings had. Such a tragedy he had to die so young. He got fame and fortune very young. Sometimes that is hard to learn how to handle. He lived a fast life.

Jimmy is missed. As Wings is no more, and when he died he was not in Wings anymore, we can only imagine what he would have done in the past 30 years. He might have more recognition that what he has.

Thanks for your work in Jimmy's memory.

Me and the project mentioned in the latest issue of Wapping Wharf, which is the ultimate Small Faces fanzine with over 5000 subscribers worldwide! John Hellier, the publisher of Wapping Wharf wants me to write a 2-3 page feature on Jimmy for the next issue and I am excited!  :)

I finally sent the scrapbook to Jimmy's mum today. It cost me $39.50 but it's worth it. She should receive it within 6-10 days.
