Mainly latitude I reckon HG. Up in Nim country is tropical or sub tropical, while where I am is on a latitude equivalent to Tokyo in the North. Then you have all the other factors like ocean currents and height above sea level. Where I am is a few hundred metres high and 100 odd miles inland.

You have to bear in mind that Australia is a huge country approximately the size of the USA.
The top third of the country is fully tropical the middle bit is kind of subtropical and the lower bit is temperate so in the lower bit they get chilly Winters hot summer's.
It's a bit like comparing Boston with Miami.

Hi Kathy, Kevin and Moog. I'm touched by your concern. Parts of New Jersey were hit very hard with flooding but fortunately not where I live. Right now I'm in Watkins Glen, New York tracking my race car at Watkins Glen International. I'll be away for a few more days returning on Thursday. I remember how you were all concerned several years ago when Hurricane Sandy knocked out power in New Jersey for two weeks and you hadn't heard from me and the sincere relief and joy expressed when I was able to post again on the Forum. It's a close knit community we have here that extends globally with friendships that have lasted over several years. I should have posted that I would be away so as not to cause needless worry. I didn't anticipate the storm would be as severe as it was when I told Kevin I would be away in the moderators' forum. I'll see you all again soon.

That's for sure. My older daughter, in Grand Forks, just lost power for the second time; wind chills are 26 below 0 (~32 below C). I told her she and her boyfriend should just snuggle together 'til it comes back on.
