such wonderful tv then!, where has it all gone?? :o

It's all a matter of taste, of course, but to my mind there isn't a lot happening right now. But then, I don't have the TV on much except to watch DVDs, so I could well be missing what is worthwhile. As for the sixties; yeah: they did seem to have more style and a more ambitious  sense of what was worth trying than we do now. They were a more extroverted lot than we are, I suspect.

I wish somebody would reissue The Prisoner. Haven't seen it in years. The old ITC catalog was released over here by A&E (and included Python, The Avengers, and a lot of Gerry Anderson), but I stupidly didn't buy a set and now it's gone. I suspect somebody else has the copyright now.

The Prisoner is all on you tube I watched episode 1 last night where he wakes up in the village

Brilliant series,  the village is a real place called Port Merion in Wales, I've been there a couple of times and it's exactly as in the series

Here's episode 1

TV has never been better than it has in the last 10 years or so.  Games of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The Blacklist, Luther, Orphan Black. etc.

You can keep all that cheesy stuff from the 60s.

I used to have a girlfriend who would always change channels whenever she knew I liked a show.  Sometimes I tried to pretend I didn't like a show, but she knew, and turned it off anyway.  She also trained her younger sister to do this in case she wasn't around.  She would also change radio stations on me whenever she knew that I liked the song that was playing.

She also tried to control how many scoops of ice cream I would have on a cone as well as, very rarely, what type of beer I drank.

She once told me that if I didn't do what she wanted that meant that I didn't love her.  I really got tired of being tested all the time.

I really wonder if we were still together today if she would let me watch Doctor Svengooli on Saturday nights.

I love the 60s 'cheesy stuff'  ;D

I just watched Callan episodes for the umpteenth time, and Public Eye, The English made some great stuff

Kevin, I'll give you The Avengers, The Prisoner and some other English shows from back then.

I honestly think we're in a Golden Age right now, reality shows notwithstanding.

Just my opinion, of course.

The time i watch tv is to watch the NFL or Aussie Rules in season. i read in bed on the nights i don't work. I play online PC games.

The movie and music industry are pretty much at the lowest ebb in history IMO, although I'm keen to see Rogue One and Assassins Creed. i have hardly seen any of the 'bog films of the last 15 years purely because I couldn't be bothered sitting and watching them. Maybe the tons of coffee I drink makes me not able to sit quietly for 2 hours lol. Even now I like to multi task

All the best songs have been written long ago and the same with films. There will no be more classics in either genre.

Actually that would be a great discussion - name the last great classic song and/or movie!

I actually think TV is head and shoulders above movies right now. TV has better writing, story lines, etc. Movie studios are re-hashing the same stuff over and over.

yeah the move towards the mini series type thing has been good as the production values are good and they know a lot of people will watch a good product. The movies are a lost cause. I loathe the endless churning out of kids animated films with a passion.

I think the "new" classics are some of the Pixar animated films. The Toy Story trilogy, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Inside Out are all great stories using the newer medium of CGI brilliantly.

As for TV I think there's a surplus of excellent series. The main thing is I doubt anyone really watches them on broadcast TV.  They stream them or buy DVDs.  Of course most of what is actually available on broadcast tv at any given moment is pretty dire.

I prefer 1960s television programs to today's fare.  I like watching shows of redeeming social value like...
