There is a smattering of tracks - I can't regard them as "songs" - for which I have little regard:
Revolution 9, Flying, Wild Honey Pie... no real surprises there surely - although I've no doubt each of those has its own champion, somewhere.
But when it comes to songs - proper lyrics with a melody SONGS, mind you - then I'm afraid that one in particular always jumps out at me.
We are used to (and rightly proud of) the eclecticism and variety The Beatles brought to us, especially in their later, more experimental, boundary-stretching years. But there is an early song which many love but which to me always sounds so jarringly old fashioned for their dynamic, albeit romantic, repertoire. I'm sad to say it induces a slight cringe in me to this day whenever I hear those opening chords, followed by Paul's pure but rather twee vocal. It sounds as though it ought to be rubbing shoulders on a playlist with stuff like "Come Into The Garden Maud" or "Where Did You Get That Hat?"
Have you worked out what it is yet?
"Till There Was You".
