Mexican group mixes ancestral music with Beatles melodies

Guadalajara (Mexico), April 22 (IANS/EFE) More than 50 young Mixtec Indians gave a concert in the western Mexican city of Guadalajara, in which they fused their ancestral musical tradition with melodies made famous by the legendary British rock group The Beatles.With instruments typical of the Mixtec culture rooted in the southern state of Oaxaca, such as the tuba and accordion, the members of the Yaandavi Symphonic Orchestra on Friday performed songs like “Yesterday” and “All You Need Is Love” in the Pedro Arrupe Auditorium at Iteso Jesuit University.

Beatles unseen photos to be sold

Unseen photos of the Beatles are to go up for sale after lying in a family album for almost half a century.The 20 black-and-white images show the band as they made their first film, A Hard Day's Night, in March 1964 at the Scala Theatre in London.Taking pictures on the closed set was banned, but Pinewood Studios props manager Peter Allchorne went about taking snaps unhindered.Mr Allchorne put the images in a family album where they have stayed until now.

Beatles concert raises money for Northport Tour Choir

The local musical community came together on the Northport High School auditorium stage Friday night for a benefit concert featuring the Beatles tribute band to raise funds for the Northport Tour Choir’s summer trip to Spain and Portugal.Students in the choir will perform at several churches, synagogues and public squares during their international tour.
