The Beatles Drop T Logo
« on: October 03, 2018, 04:01:18 AM »

The Beatles Drop T logo's history is discussed in this video which appeared today on YouTube...

https://youtu.be/9oDZ4uYxmFU

A recreation of the 20 inch Sullivan bass drum head made for me by Tom Johnson, a graphic artist and loyal Ringo fan in Atlanta, in 2005.  He painted the letters by hand as on the original.  He used an old Remo Weather King head with a period-correct decal.  The hoop is from an old Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl set.

Yes, thanks, Lucky Owner Baz! That really is a fantastic video. I like that he said that Ringo took possession just in time for their first headlining appearance on Thank Your Lucky Stars. They were on the show three times before this but not with top billing. And it really was just in time!

There was a seventh Drop-T Head which appeared briefly in the opening scene of Let It Be being carried off stage by Mal Evans...

It was never mounted on Ringo's kit...

Ringo really did play the heck out of those drums! Thanks for posting all the pictures, Barry.

They took a lot of abuse on tour as well, Kelley.  The Sullivan Head has an imprint of one of Ringo's cymbals on it...

I was actually thinking of this show in particular when I wrote that. I don’t know how Ringo kept from falling off his platform!

Yes, they were performing in the round and Ringo had to turn his riser every few numbers.  The riser wasn't very stable...

Eddie Stokes was painting Drop-T Head No. 1 which wouldn't be ready for another couple of weeks.
