I think Rubber Soul is The Beatles at their Prime, their best, they were perfect, this album is the answer to all great music. Every song has something special. Considering John and Paul had about 4 weeks to write most of their songs makes it even more remarkable. Their schedule was unbelievable in '65 and it was pushing Autumn and they had to get the album together quickly for the Christmas market. I think they created some of the best stuff when they were under pressure. 'Rubber Soul' is certainly a testament to that.
I got RS on CD, and it sounds fine to me.Personally, I think Rubber Soul is great, but I am not a huge fan of Girl. I like What Goes On better than Girl. The Word is good but nothing to write home about. Personally, it lags a bit in the middle for me.Revolver is a much, much better album with the weakest spot probably being Good Day Sunshine, and I even like that song.
