I'm getting there, Kev.  I love that Hofner!

I've learned a number of Beatles songs.  This young lady's videos have been helpful...

Neil Young is playing a 6-string banjo tuned like a guitar.

My Earl Scruggs Standard is a 5-string banjo...

Standard tuning is this...

Fretting, hammer-ons, bends, etc. I know.  I'm good at two-finger Delta Blues picking.  Now I have to learn three-finger Scruggs picking.  Earl Scruggs could pick 12 notes per second.  It'll take me a lot of time to even get close!

He made one mistake in that performance and Lester Flatt caught it and commented at the end of the video.  At 0:55 he was about to do a run down the neck but did a different roll instead.  He did the run at 1:09 and smiled widely as the camera panned out.  Even his error sounded great!

It is, Kev.  I was lucky to find it.  Gibson isn't making banjos anymore ever since floods destroyed their Nashville factory ten years ago.  It was made at a time Gibson went back to making banjos the way they did prior to WWII using higher grades of maple and specially designed tone rings.  The workmanship on the instrument is magnificent and the tone is great after 23 years of aging.

Thanks, Moog.  It's a nice one alright.

I think this young lady was inspired by Paul McCartney to do this...

Yes it is!  Thanks Kelley.

So, you saw Earl Scruggs play Cripple Creek with Doc Watson.  Here's Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs playing it...

Buck Owens and Roy Clark were always pickin' an' grinnin' to Cripple Creek on Hee Haw...

It's like a bogan family who just sit around watching TV.

Don't know what the word for Bogan is in America, maybe trailer trash  ha2ha

Here's the original by the inimitable George Formby
George was very popular in the UK I think in the early 50s
