lol i was actually gonna say that i thought radio was more for promoting new bands or bands that may have not been universally popular, and that radios probably dont play beatles stuff as they are so widely known ?

I'd just like to say one thing. Most of us have all The Beatles records, right? When there's so much other music out there, why do you want to listen to them on the radio? Listen to someone else for a change, or play your CD's!!

The problem is that Beatles music is not being broadcast to showcase the group on popular radio stations - to introduce the music to kids who are tuning into classic rock stations to see what they've been missing.  The problem is that Beatles music is not being introduced to the kids!

Sure us Beatles fans can play our CD's and be happy; I'm worried about the people who aren't familiar with the Beatles.  Radio stations should show the proper respect and play their songs along with Zeppelin, the Stones, and the rest.

Fair point, but do kids listen to the radio anymore? When I was a kid it was the only way to hear stuff. That, and Top Of The Pops on a Thursday evening. Now everyone has Walkman's, iPods, music on their mobile phone, not to mention the Internet. I just can't imagine kids listening to the radio.

I did go off the point a bit, and you're right, they should be better represented.

Kids may not go to listen to the radio on their own, no.  But the kid's parents do - the car radio is the best representation there is.  A dad born in 1965 will likely be driving his family around listening to a classic rock station.  That's how kids get exposed to the radio, I feel.

My favourite radio station plays the Beatles every day for what they call a 'Spontaneous Beatle Break' that usually contains three to five songs in a row, but that's all we hear from them around here otherwise. (Plus, it's hard to catch because you can never predict it). :-/ They certainly make a show of it - there's special introduction music and everyone, so I suppose that's good - but I do wish they'd play more in general.

I've listened to the radio a lot recently because that was all we had at work this summer in terms of music players and I've just grown used to it, and I've gotten to know the local classic rock stations quite well. If they play a Beatles song, they usually play more than one, so I think it's fair to say that the Beatles do in fact get respect on the radio as virtually no other group has the honour of having their songs played back-to-back unless on special occasions, but they're just not played all that often. Meh.

There is?  What station would I get "world in between?"

I don't know what it's like where you live, but here in London there are at least 2 - Virgin and XFM. You hear a Beatles song every now and then. But most of their music is, quite rightly, modern. Virgin played Love in its entirety, and have had Macca  live on several occassions.
Besides, my point was more that just because something isn't regarded as hard that it is soft. There is a genre called rock. Neither hard nor soft.

I've always considered them to be primarily a pop band. I imagine classic rock stations stick to just that. That's the trouble with specialised music stations, a lot of musicians miss out because they don't fit into any recognised catagory. Try a pop radio station aimed at the over 40's.

they're hardly a pop band. even their early stuff like Saw Her Standing There or I Want to Hold Your Hand is good rock n roll. but I know what you're saying when you say that that stuff is "pop." I mean, I can't imagine Can't Buy Me Love being played on rock radio after Immigrant Song or War Pigs.

on my local classic rock channel, I've heard Come Together, Lady Madonna, Get Back, A Day in the Life, While My Guitar, and Let It Be..........maybe once or twice each. it's a f***ing travesty.

Pre-1967 stuff probably can't work on classic rock radio like you said. and most of the stuff from Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour wouldn't work either because it's just so different than everything else there is. Strawberry Fields gets some play, as does Lucy in the Sky, but that's about it.

the White Album needs more play. USSR should be in regular rock radio rotation. Same with Helter Skelter and Birthday.

Yay! Great! The other day I came to the gym when it opened (at 7 o'clock in the morning!  ;D ) and they turn on the radio and 'Imagine' was just starting. It was like coming into Heaven.  :)

P.S. I guess they played 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' the same day. I've enjoyed working out!  :P

Of course, Beatles music is heard on Oldies Stations - you want eclectic, it don't get any better than Oldies stations!  They play Motown, they play folk, folk-rock, rock 'n roll (50's, early 60's), rock (60's - 70's), black, white, holding hands, listening to each other's music in harmony.

But I still think they deserve better.  Someone said it above - the Beatles were very unique, and their music was very different from what was being put out at that time.  The Beatles were the classical music of the 60's, while the rest of the 60's music was down 'n dirty rock.

Our classic rock stations play a lot of Beatles. It's usually the typical songs, but they surprise you every now and then. They also play My Sweet Lord a lot for some reason! The moden rock station KROQ (k-rock) won't play them, yet they occasionaly play older stuff like the Ramones, the Clash, the Stooges, even the Kinks but no Beatles. I guess they're too mainstream for that kind of station.  :P I haven't noticed the Indie station play them either and I think they could definitely find obscure Beatles tracks that would fit in to their format. They just don't want to try! :P

Beatles can be heard on the radio here, although only their very famous songs such as Hey Jude, Yesterday, Let it be, Hard days night. I heard Hello Goodbye also. There was a Beatles weekend not a long ago when they played Lucy in the sky, Back in the USSR, Octopus' garden, etc :)

For my 20th birthday, I called my local "oldies" station that plays the beatles sometimes and asked them to play Hey Jude for me, an they said sure and made a little small talk with me, was suprised I was a beatles freak and only 20, and then like an hour and a half later they got to it. I was so mad. I have now discovered the local "rock n roll" station that plays the beatles twice as much!! I should have called them!!

I live in Sacramento, Ca.  We finally got an oldies station ( we had a good one years back and then it disappeared).  And I usually listen to it throughout the day and I am happy to say that they play alot of Beatles.  And not just the same ones over and over but they really mix it up.  From Please Please Me to Revolution, they even played Paperback Writer.

I don't know who here has satellite radio (siruis) but they have a 60's station that throws in alot of Beatle songs and also a station call Classic Vinyl that plays them alot too.
