Which musician wouldve 'fit' into The Beatles ?
« on: December 11, 2010, 08:09:07 AM »

I'm going to say Syd Barrett.

Syd wrote lots of magical songs and created some magical characters like Gerald the mouse, Emily, Arnold Layne and Lucifer Sam, his characters wouldve fit well with Polythene Pam and Billy Shears and Rita the meter maid, Syd was also a brilliant songwriter and wonderful singer  who wouldve added a large slice of talent to what they already had.

Hmmm, I do not know alot about Syd Barret, but from what I know, I think he would have been too "out there" for the Beatles

As for the topic at hand, the first person that comes to mind is Alan White (I do not reallly have a reason)

Brian Wilson

I agree. I wonder what Brian Wilson could've done if he could've worked with a more supportive and musically more progressive and open minded band than The Beach Boys. And The Beatles with four part harmonies, that would've been something...

I agree about a keyboardist.  Alan Price (The Animals) was a contemporary and would have fit in well.

Yes, double drumming!

Dino Danelli of The Rascals would have fit in.  He even looked like Paul...

Brian Wilson

Although I think he fits in stylistically, Brian and Paul probably would have clashed as musicians due to their similar control-freak tendencies.

Brian Wilson was never a control-freak. He very rarely wrote without a collaborator and by all accounts he was always open for suggestions from anyone.

My mistake. I guess I just always got the impression that he wanted his music to sound a certain way and was rarely satisfied. I guess "perfectionist" would be a better word to use.

Yeah, "perfectionist" is probably a better word. Brian was someone who usually knew exactly what he wanted, but I think he always remained humble and insecure enough to be open for input from anyone who had an idea.

Hmm...I'm gonna have to go with Billy Preston as well. Oh and Dino Danelli really does look like Paul!  ha2ha The black and white one really surprised me with the similarities! ^^ And for a short moment I thought the first picture was Paul playing drums in Wings! Silly lol

I think Donovan might have fit in with them during the later years.
