John and Paul. It's the last picture I know of John with another Beatle. '75 or '76ish I believe.

What the hell does Ringo have on his snare in this photo? It looks like it might be a woodblock, but I cant imagine the sound of a woodblock being played off of a snare being worth a damn for anything. Any ideas? I'm a drummer and i'm at a loss for this one.

It kinda looks like a case for a harmonica, but I have no idea why that would be on Ringo's drum.

I thought the last photo of John with a Beatle was with Ringo in 1980 actually. I've seen some paparazzi shots of them together walking down a sidewalk and then getting into a car. Also saw some of them going into a building together like an apartment. I'm pretty sure that was the last photos with him and another Beatle. But this shot could be the last Paul and him shot. I'll try to find the ones I'm talking about.

I'd say that it would affect the sound of the snare drum quite a bit as well. My guess is that it's just an optical illusion and that the woodblock is actually hanging a few inches above the snare drum.
