It's clear and cold this evening.  Perfect for seeing the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn...

Can you also see Oberon Titania and Miranda?  ;D

Another clear night tonight.  Mars was at opposition two months ago and is now further away from Earth...

Tonight is The Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Mars.  It coincides with The Winter Solstice and looks like The Star of Bethlehem...

High Wind Warning for central North Dakota, plus a couple inches of snow.  :)

Winds could gust as high as 65 mph (~105 km/h), yikes  :o . I'm glad I'll be snuggled in bed with a book, and not driving. . . if I ever get this work project wrapped up, that is. (This forecast is a good motivator.)

Wind gusts today are estimated at 75–90 mph. I had my hair pulled back in a clip (sort of an ersatz French twist) this morning, and when I got to my destination it was a mess. Yeesh.

My elder daughter and I laughingly agreed that North Dakota is one of the only states we've lived in where you can have both sets (inside and outer) of windows shut and the blinds or curtains will still be moving a bit.  ha2ha

Ugggghhhh. . . We've been under a Wind Chill Advisory since last Friday, and the National Weather Service just extended it through this Friday. The dreaded –40 F (and –40 in Celsius, too, apparently) wind chills tonight.

I want summer!  >:(

Wow.  Its freezing here in West Virginia too, but nowhere near that cold. We're supposed to get 4 to 8 more inches of snow tomorrow.  I'm so tired of winter.  I need to move south.

Yeah, this is hurts-to-breathe weather.  :-\  Frostbite can set in within 5 minutes.

Yup.  :)  I did come home one day last week when it was 6 below outside to see someone sitting on their patio, hunched over either a book or (more likely) a phone. Also, speaking of bbqs, the winds here get so strong that, back when I was in a house, our gas grill, complete with propane tank, blew across the deck. Yikes. The combination of the two (extremely low temps and very strong winds) is just brutal.

On the positive side, those annoying face masks are actually serving a useful purpose this month by protecting one's face from the cold.  ;D

From this morning's local newspaper:

Meanwhile, the temperature crept above zero on Sunday, and Hargrove noted that it actually felt kind of nice outside.

"It's surprising how quickly you get acclimated," he said.

So true.  :)

A high of 79 F (~26 C) today, and then snow in the forecast for Tuesday.

Now that's just not fair. <stamps foot>

90% chance of  patchy blowing snow tonight (21 F [–6 C]).

Ummmm; aren't flowers supposed to be blooming somewhere in the Great Plains?   :-\

Either way, I'm giving myself a snow day.  ;D

If it’s any consolation, we’ve just had our first below zero temperatures of the year. Not very far below compared to where you are, but cold enough for we folk.
