Yeah, my mom had great taste in music and taught me a lot. I didn't always appreciate it like I should have, though, especially when she woke me up in the morning by singing the chorus from this:

Oh, How I Hate to get up in the Morning
http://youtu.be/71smG5d29to

Wow Kelley. I have not thought of that song in decades. My mum used to sing it around the house. I'd totally forgotten it.

Thank you.

Not on a wind up.....seriously considering buying a record from 1975 in the next few days.....been building up to it for a number of months now.....bit worried.....wrong can normally only result from such a rash move.

This would mean I will own a record made 'after' 'Obscured by Clouds' (i.e. 'after' Friday, 2nd June, 1972).....so.....truth be told.....bit anxious.

My daughter keeps playing this on our holiday. Nice tune but there seems to be a glut of sensitive , depressing male songwriters. They make Extra Textiure seem bouncy and  optimistic.

In a Junior mood...

Junior Brown "Highway Patrol" ‌‌ - Bohemia Afterdark

Just spoke to him yesterday, preparing for a gig preview article I'm writing. Really nice guy. Shreds on the "guit-steel" too.

Get back to you about the 1975 album.....but, reading David Hepworth's blog, it appears we are only a few months away from the release of 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' on 8th March.

In reading about this I came across a surprising statistic, namely that each Dylan album - from his debut in 1962 to 'New Morning' in 1970 (with the exception of 'Highway 61 Revisited'.....no. 4 in the U.K., 3 in the U.S.) - charted higher in Britain than it did in the States.

I never knew that.

Big hole in the CD collection filled today.....'My Generation' - The Who.

Don't get me wrong I've got it on LP, but the various, and subsequently discarded, CD versions (the U.S. 'Big Ben' cover one, and the disastrous 'deluxe' one) have always come up short, and (a) it's in glorious mono, and (b) it was £3 (three pounds!) in Sainsbury's.

Good timing as 'The Avengers' episode tonight on TV was aired on Saturday, 4th December, 1965, one day after the release of 'My Generation'.....oh yeah, AND 'Rubber Soul'.....oh yeah, AND 'We Can Work It Out'/'Day Tripper'.

Ah...a song that spanned the continents! Every once in a while I'll suddenly remember a song like this. Those singing-around-the-house-mums helped make us what we are today. :)

Excellent Barry! But I'm glad Mom didn't put something like this on my stereo to wake me up in the morning. LOL

On a weekend if we ad to do something my Dad would stand in the doorway and say "Rise and shine. Everybody up." He would gently say it over and over and over until you finally gave in! "Ok, ok ! I'm getting up!" He'd then walk away chuckling!

LOL Since these opened in iTunes maybe I should put them on my phone and use them as my alarm in the morning! My daughter tells me I'm going to wind up hating the song that's on there now, Helter Skelter. I don't yet but I tend to have strange Beatles mini-dreams if I hit the snooze button too many times.
