I didn't realize that. I love Louisiana, and New Orleans in particular. I went there with friends when I was in my 20s, and we had a blast: eating crawfish on the beach, getting hurricanes on Bourbon Street, coffee and beignets at Café du Monde, and—of course—Preservation Hall.

I'd love to go back and dig deeper into that area's history, do a more serious sort of tour and learn more.

As an aside, the saxophone middle eight you hear in James Crawford's recording has a noticeable change in tempo and can be considered an early example of Rock and Roll...

No, there were no records or radio in the 1850s but Stephen Foster's music was popular until the outbreak of The Civil War. The minstrel shows and sales of his sheet music kept him popular.

Bill and Taffy Danoff planned to sell Take Me Home, Country Roads to Johnny Cash for him to record. When John Denver heard it, he loved it and helped them finish up the song. It was a big hit for him in 1971.
