the songs that send a shiver down my back.
« on: May 26, 2005, 07:21:12 PM »

in my life- simply the greatest beatles song ever....AS ozzy said its like an old man looking back on his life...the melody, harmonies, and chords fit together so well in this masterpeice, and the lyrics are simply beautiful, although it has a sad feeling to it.

eleanor rigby- pretty much sends a shiver down my spine woth every verse, such powerful, wonderfull lyrics, and has a sad eerie feeling to it, and the violin in the background certainly contributes to it.

the fool on the hill- a great peice of music...whenever i hear this song, i think of like this man who lives on his own and never talks to anyone, and his house is like perfect ..wierd! ::)

I threw on some Abbey Road the other day and torched one while listening and the song that got me was 'Because'. I thought it was cool how you could hear them smacking their lips and clearing their mouths before they sang during the verses. I also dug John singing and Pauls backup vocals on 'Come Together' for some reason. Good stuff.

It's never really done it for me either. Maybe the melody is a bit too pretty (for me) and i find the harmonies a bit too nice as well. It needs an edge.

For No One is the only song ever (let alone Beatle songs) that I have really connected with on a personal level.
It was '76, and I just been dumped by my first real girlfriend (real = let me have sex with her). I'd just bought my first copy of Revolver, heard F N O and thought "my God, he KNOWS". Every word summed up exactly how I felt. No other song has ever done that for me.
Now when I hear it I'm right back there.

(ps: and Sonya, if you're out there, I forgive you. B*tch.)

I agree. In My Life also never did it for me. I do enjoy it, but I don't think it's their greatest song and doesn't hit me that deep. It's a nice harmony, and that's just how I see it.

I agree. In My Life IS overrated.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go reinforce the doors...(ghost1)

It's mostly George Martin's solo that makes In My Life so great... But it's definately one of my favorite Beatles songs.

In My Life
Here Comes The Sun
Golden Slumbers
and Yesterday

are the songs that always really did something for me.

I want In My Life and Here Comes The Sun to be played on my funeral. About 70 years from now.

I have to admit that I sang "Ticket to Ride" alot during a breakup period.

In terms of spine-shiver-songs, the latest to really hit me that way is Kinks song "Animal" from the "To the Bone" CD.

I forgot to mention Let It Be... I want that played at my funeral too. Actually, I have a whole list of songs I want played at my funeral. Uh, that's not weird, is it?

Hopefully, yeah, but you can never be sure. My funeral could be 80 years from now, but it could also be this week.
