I agree wholeheartedly, although I would amend it as to say it is his best *recording* ever.  Song-wise I would think he wrote better, tho I can't offer one off the top of my head.

Only psychologically.  And even then your mind takes such a beating I imagine that wouldn't last too very long either (Lennon certainly used it a LOT).

Yes, God Only Knows as well.  Probably better written than GV and superbly recorded as well.

Pet Sounds is a fantastic album, mostly due to it's incredible production. Yes, there's many unmemorable songs on it, but it's whole relevance is in the fact that it was pulled off way back in the Sixties.

First time 've ever heard this point of view and I must say it is most convincing.

The songs (with a few notable exceptions) are not all that good to MY ears.
