Roger Waters-Behind The Wall
« on: November 20, 2005, 01:34:14 AM »

Guessing from an earlier post, either people appreciate the incredible brilliance of "The Wall", and others don't. I have a pretty fascinating bootleg of Roger Waters, supposedly on all instruments, laying down the demos for the album. If you can imagine, some of the lyrics are even darker than those on the released version. If there's a few of you that are interested, reply or PM me and I'll post it on this forum for the the first 25 contestants (max # of downloads). If no one is interested then I won't. Let me know.

I have them. The lyrical difference, for what they are since they are minor, are far from darker. Here is some of CN:

Hello
Is there anybody in there?
Where are you hiding?
I can hear your breathing.
Is there anyone at home?
Listen
I am a phisycian
And I can solve your condition
Like a magician
If you show me where it hurts

Those aren't the lyrics I'd have chosen to point out the differences. I'm glad you have it, but I was throwing it out for people who don't.

^Sorry, I've only got the first 1.33 minutes of the demo but recorded from radio on an audio tape but I'm not able to transfer audio from tapes to my computer. :-/

New version of Pink Floyd's The Wall
Several veteran rock artists have teamed to record a track-by-track tribute to Roger Waters / Pink Floyd's "The Wall." Due Sept. 27 via the Cleopatra Records' Purple Pyramid imprint, "Back Against the Wall" boasts the participation of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, the Doors' Robby Krieger and Yes' Rick Wakeman, Chris Squire and Steve Howe. Another former Yes alum, Billy Sherwood, produced the tribute, which also features King Crimson's Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, ELP's Keith Emerson, Styx's Tommy Shaw and Toto's Steve Lukather, as well as actor Malcolm McDowell, who provides spoken dialogue. "All the artists involved poured their hearts and soul into this body of work and it shows," Sherwood says. "It is with the utmost respect to Pink Floyd that we took the challenge."

Rick Wakeman?   Oh no!   I wonder if they'll do The Wall on ice?

BTW, check out his "communications centre."

Really, though, it's a good thing that an unpretentious work like The Wall will get redone by a group of humble, unpretentious musicians.

I will upload it some time this week for those who are interested. I don't know how an album like 'The Wall' could be considered pretentious, I always thought it was more of Waters' autobiography losing his Father in Anzio. As the album progresses towards the end, it gets a little extreme. The only thing that is pretentious is that you presume to know everything about just about everything, including an album you haven't heard, but just by the musician's involved, the opinion/fact according to you has been made. Big Ol' High Horse.

Upon further review. I'll upload it and PM it to those who have expressed interest so I don't have to read the pretentious pap of some of our esteemed colleagues.

^You do take the biscuit sometimes mate. If anyone mentions music that's not to your taste you wade in with the insults (both to the music and the people who listen to it.) Now someone pokes a little

He's entitled to listen to and enjoy whatever he wants. God Bless him for it. But don't cast judgement on something you haven't heard. That's being pretentious. Some of the music on that 'Wall' tribute might be great, some of it might suck large. And all I was saying is that it is pretentious, or at least very presumptuous to form an opinion on something you know nothing about. These artists are capable of going beyond the scope of 'Prog Rock Hell'. Adrian Belew is one of my favorite guitar players for example. He can do beautiful acoustic things, to making noise that makes you feel like you are in the middle of a nightmare while you are awake. Adam's tendency towards rambling creative writing experiments are tedious, but he's entitled to do what he wants. I have a problem with 'know it all's' especially when they are just clutching at straws. I posted this because I wanted to see a show of hands as to who would be interested. Period. Then there has to be the ancillary bullcrap including a link to Rick Wakeman's website. Who cares?

Sorry, JR.  I shouldn't have added the pretentious line.  But I do think Rick Wakefield's website is pretty funny.  And you're right about Adrian Belew.

Fair enough. The wade in was wrong and I apologise. I know you just put up with me and I normally try to word any posts that concern you with care.
I just thought that after you implied that people who like Madonna are sheep, and Oasis is OK "if you're into unoriginal rip off crap" that you should have been able to take a dig at Wakeman and co's alledged pretentiosness. (spelling). It just got my back up.
You must admit you're pretty upfront with your views on people you don't like. (which perhaps some see as a good thing).
Anyway, I'll try and stay out of your way.
