Thought we could do with a thread about movies. So what have you seen recently?

Blow Up 1966, Michelangelo Antonioni.

Watched this last night for about the tenth time. Brilliant movie about swinging sixties London fashion photographer played by David Hemmings who unwhittingly records a murder in one of his photographs. Contains a very rare appearence of both Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck playing together in The Yardbirds, until Beck smashes his guitar a la Pete Townsend. It's really a film about how we percieve reality, or not.

Blood Diamond.

Blood Diamond is an Academy Award-nominated 2006 film directed and produced by Edward Zwick. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou. The title refers to blood diamonds, which are diamonds mined in war zones and sold to finance the conflicts. On January 23, 2007, it was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Best Supporting Actor (Djimon Hounsou).

Watched Life Is Beautiful again this weekend. Can't recommend it enough. Cinema at its best - every shot, even the concentration camp scenes - are made with such loving care. Not a minute of the film is wasted. A joy.

I've never seen it, and I really should. Is that the one when Benigni jumped all over the chairs at the Oscars?

It's suprisingly good. None of the original characters appear, it just continues the story 6 months later. A lot more blood and gore, so if you're into horror flicks it's a winner. Well directed with plenty of tension.

Saw two on the weekend.
American History X (I know I should have seen it already. Great, but a tad predictable.)
The Butterfly Effect  - excellent. The tag of a "time travelling teenager returning to fix his life" nearly made me not watch it, but it was very clever and thought provoking. Strongly recommended.

I nearly bought that the other day. I may do so now.

Excellent film! One of my all time favourites- very very cleverly written and thoght through. I've seen it twice now but different versions so they had different endings- one was the editor's cut you see- and it made the film vary as a whole quite dramatically! Both were good though.

I watched Casanova the other night- the BBC Television serial one (but still counts as a film right?) with David Tennant and Peter O'Toole and other such people- thought it was excellent- a really good piece of period set drama. Fabulous

I watched Pretty Woman for the first time last night. Not bad. Totally unrealistic, but still quite enjoyable.

i saw Ocean's Thirteen friday night. good movie but it ended up costing me $42 for two tickets, two medium sodas, a medium popcorn and nachos.

...and people wonder why the movie industry is tanking...
