Story for every song: Brothers' show shuns gimmicks, honors Fab Four music at Mellow Theater

Their father never was a member of the Beatles, but for the McGuigan brothers, "Yesterday and Today" almost is as much a tribute to him as it is to John, Paul, George and Ringo."I think he would love it more than I could imagine," said Billy McGuigan, the oldest of the brothers and creator and emcee of the Beatles-themed show. "I think because it's for him and it's about him and it's about his love for (Beatles) music coming through us. And I only could wish that he could get to see it, because he would be blown away by it."

Labrinth covers 'Yesterday' by The Beatles
Singer performs his own take of the Beatles song - watch it on Gigwise

Labrinth has performed a cover of The Beatles classic 'Yesterday'.The Hackney singer-songwriter sang his rendition of the song for Punchbowlblog during a soundcheck before his Koko gig. With his distinctively smooth voice and gentle guitar strokes, Labrinth really generates a great rendition of a classic hit. It's not often a Beatles song can sound so great when it's stripped back.

Elizabeth Taylor's gold Cleopatra cape, rarest Beatles U.S. single in existence anchor Heritage Auctions sale

DALLAS, TX.- The gold cape that Elizabeth Taylor wore as Cleopatra in two pivotal scenes in the 1963 film of the same name is expected to bring $20,000 as the top entertainment lot in Heritage Auctions’ March 30 Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Signature® auction. The top lot on the music side is expected to be the rarest of all U.S. 45 Beatles singles, a mint condition stock pressing of 1962’s “My Bonnie”/“The Saints,” with the Fab Four as the back-up band, estimated at $30,000+.

Songs by The Beatles merge with burlesque dancing in cabaret show

Blue Morris is on a mission to fuse the music of The Beatles with bumping, grinding burlesque dancing. The guitarist and producer of Beatles Burlesque! has booked the show into Columbia Theatre in New West on Saturday, March 24, following a pair of sold-out dates at Vancouver's ANZA Club last year. The Fab Four's music is a perfect match for burlesque, Morris told me.

The Beatles Butchered: How The Beatles Were Carved Up

The Beatles albums are the cornerstones of the popular music canon. Please Please Me, With The Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night, Beatles For Sale, Help!, Rubber Soul… They sold in their millions all over the globe. In America, however, things were very different. The group’s early material was owned by different labels, leading to an unseemly scramble as different Beatles singles were released in competition with each other.Eventually Capitol – part of EMI, the Beatles’ British label – took control. But even then, the chaotic money-grabbing continued.

Yellow Dubmarine's Beatles Reggae Tribute comes to the Iron Horse on Wednesday, March 28th

The melody is instantly familiar but the other sounds are not — horns boldly announce their arrival, the patient tempo crawls along and the voice is more Maryland than Liverpool. When the plea to stay kicks in — "Believe me when I beg you, don't ever leave me alone," he sings — the song's identity becomes clear. It's "Oh! Darling," the Lennon/McCartney classic, but this bouncing version comes courtesy of Yellow Dubmarine, a Rockville eight-piece that plays reggae versions of Beatles songs. It's a risky concept — does the world need another Beatles cover band, especially one infusing the tracks with reggae and dub influences? Bassist and singer Aaron Glaser says he's aware of the skeptics and purists, but that his band only wants to celebrate the songs so many people enjoy.
