Bohemian Rhapsody was fun. I get the criticism that it was a bit cliched in dialogue at some points. And aside from Freddie’s solo excursion there wasn’t that much of a “crisis” in the film. But Malek did a great job. Including vocally. Can’t beat a good music biopic.

I watched it yesterday at the Star Casino, good film I enjoyed it, I mean the main guy was very good but all other actors I thought were a bit pathetic and wooden.
Reminded me of Gran Torino in that respect.

Yes. I wonder if it was by design. At least for the other queen members. They seemed to portray them as a bit bland, middle class lads, which from what I’ve read might not be too far off track. At least in the respect they weren’t hotel trashing rock and roll rebels.  Brian May probably spent his spare time with a telescope rather than groupies. Which at my age makes him cooler.

Just re-watched Primal Fear for the third or fourth time. What an ending! I don't think I've ever been caught so off guard. (Of course, I saw it shortly after it came out, in 1995, and was a lot younger [and less jaded] then.)

I just bought the book. We'll see how it measures up.

Gwyneth persuaded me to watch Paddington 2 with her yesterday.
Im glad she did, I thought it was wonderful and very funny, mind you she was sobbing at the end.  ;D

Went to see Rocketman on weekend. Good fun and well done. But probably not for everyone. Great performance by Taron Egerton as Elton. A rather interesting portrayal of Dick James too. Like he walked off of Guy Ritchie London gangster film. The manager John Reed has now been portrayed in both this and Bohemian Rhapsody, and doesn’t come off greatly in either.

If you’re after an accurate bio pic of Elton’s career this ain’t it. It’s much more impressionistic with the timelines all over the place and the very staged musical sequences used at places in his life not having any regard for when the song was actually written or released. I get the impression this is built to end up on broadway.

It certainly doesn’t shy away from his drug alcohol and other personal issues. Almost wallows in them. His parents if they were still alive would hate their portrayal. Elton was very involved so it must give at least his sense of his life and relationships.

I tried to watch Rocketman but I hate musicals.  I made it through the first song and bailed.

I just rewatched The Revenant, now that's my kind of film.
Brilliant in every aspect.

Can't wait for the new Tarantino flick.

If it was a multiplex theater, did you at least get to see another movie?

Went to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. A great recreation of the time. Not really much of a plot though. At least til the last third. Some great moments though. And the music is terrific.

I posted this question in Random Thoughts but now that I think about it, maybe it belongs in this thread.

That is, should I go and see the Joker?  Anyone have any thoughts on this or advice?  I've been reading multiple reviews and they're basically a pretty even mix, IMO, of love/hate it.

I'm tending to think of not going but at the same time my curiosity is wondering "What's all the fuss about?"

Well, Loco, it belongs in this thread now as the movie recently opened.

Should you go see Joker?  You're a big boy now; decide for yourself.  If you do, let us know what you think.

My son and I are huge comic book fans so we want to go and see it.  All the talk about crazy people in the theaters has me hesitant though.  I know I wouldnt be comfortable so i'll probably skip it and wait and watch it on my computer.

The mass shooting that occurred in Aurora Colorado during the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in 2012 proves your point, Todd.

I'm not a comic book fan, but the movie does look interesting, and I think Joaquin Phoenix is a fantastic actor, but I'll be streaming it at home just for that reason, too, Todd. I don't think I'd be able to relax enough to enjoy it in a theater.

And wasn't that shooter under the delusion that he was the Joker? I could be remembering wrong.
