Titanic   1996 TV Mini Series...

Barry, I've heard that one is terrible. I've never sought it out for that reason.

There were times I thought I was watching...

That leads me to assume you didn't care for it much.  ha2ha

Barry, I've heard that one is terrible. I've never sought it out for that reason.

Perhaps you should watch it, Kathy.  George C. Scott's interpretation of Captain Smith was interesting.  I wonder if Smith was as gruff and commanding as George C. Scott portrayed him.  It was fun to watch his several interchanges with Ismay.  Marilu Henner played a believable Margaret "Molly" Brown and obviously had fun doing so.  You'll enjoy Eva Marie Saint's portrayal of the fictitious Hazel Foley, a busy body of the highest order.  "Look at her!  She's wearing a red dress!  She's supposed to be in mourning!"  They even managed to throw a little bit of Gone With The Wind into this mini-series!   ;D

There were several side stories that took up a lot of time; love stories that would never have appeared on The Love Boat.  If you were to cut out all of that and just leave the Titanic scenes, as was done with the Titanic 1997 fan version you posted not too long ago, there wouldn't be much of a movie left.  But those three actors delivered fine performances worthy of watching today.

That leads me to assume you didn't care for it much.  ha2ha

The Love Boat and Fantasy Island aired  back-to-back on Saturday nights.  They were perfect vehicles for aging and out-of-work actors.  The RN I was seeing at the time loved those shows and so it became routine to watch them with her.  I thought Lauren Tewes (Your Cruise Director) was cute the first couple of years until they made he glamorous.  I liked Bernie Kopell as Your Ship's Doctor.  It was amazing what "illnesses" he wound up treating over the years.   ;D

Of course Gavin MacLeod was the perfect Captain Merrill Stubing.

The love stories were predictable with mostly happy endings as the characters disembarked.  I would have preferred some more realistic endings with some good fights and arguments.   ;D

Perhaps you should watch it, Kathy.

I'll give it a try sometime. In regard to Captain Smith being gruff, I'd imagine he was as stern as he needed to be with his officers, but his general reputation seems to be summed up on one word: urbane. He was quite suave, from what I've read, and very social. He was tremendously popular with first-class passengers, who would arrange their transportation so they'd be on his ships. He spent the early part of the night of the sinking at a party thrown by the Wideners, I believe.

Now, Captain William Thomas Turner of the Lusitania was just the opposite: irritable and reclusive (kinda like me  ha2ha ) and hated socializing with passengers, referring to them as a group of "bloody monkeys." And yet he cried on the stand at the inquest.  :'(

The Love Boat and Fantasy Island aired  back-to-back on Saturday nights.

I was usually glued to the TV, watching them, in my early teenage years.  :)

Watched the latest Guy Ritchie film, Wrath of Man.

This was a lot more of a straight action film than others he’s done. It lacked the humour of Snatch or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking barrels and he eschewed his signature fast cut edits and montages. Being set in LA rather than England we lose his usual cast of colourful cockneys and other English types.

Overall ok way to kill two hours but nothing special.

Snow Cake
Sigourney Weaver
Alan Rickman
2006

What a great movie, based in Canookia. I won't spill the plot but it's kind of riveting.
Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman are brilliant in their different ways. The other lovely thing about this film is that it's so "non-Hollywood". Watching this film I got to laugh, cry and feel that people can amaze and inspire.

Nomadland
2020

2nd time watching this.
The first time I just didnt get it, after a second viewing months later I still dont get it. Surely this is more a doco ?
No storyline, not much dialogue, looks like it was filmed on an iphone 12.

Cant believe it won best picture, best director and best actor oscars. I mean did Frances actually do any great acting in this movie ? She is a great actor but I didnt see this film requiring any intense acting.

Sweet Girl - Awful, just pass on this.

Reminiscence - Didnt like this either, but I guess its tolerable if you want to pass a couple hours.

Stillwater - Good flick.  I recommend.

The Protege - Entertaining action/thriller flick.  Shoot em' up, spy deal.

Snake Eyes - GI Joe flick.  Terrible.  Move on from this.

Just finished it. Yeesh, what a downer. I'm pretty sure I missed whatever overall existential point the creators were trying to make.  roll:)

On the upside, I finally got to see what Wall Drug looked like without having to traipse all the way to South Dakota.  ;)

Just finished the new Netflix documentary on Bob Ross. My older daughter and I love Bob Ross (and I don't even paint; I just like listening to him. I'm one of those people who can't draw a straight line with a ruler  ha2ha ).

It was very good, although sad. I was getting choked up at the end.

The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It. Meh. If you're looking for a scary film for Halloween time, I recommend giving this one a pass. The original Conjuring was far better, and seriously terrifying.

Cry Macho
2021

Another superb offering from Clint Eastwood, superb directing and acting.
A wonderfully relaxed well paced film that draws you in completely I really loved it.
I believe he wanted to make this film since the 80s but didn't feel he was old enough.

An Unknown Compelling Force (2021), a documentary on the Dyatlov Pass Incident (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyatlov_Pass_incident). I've read several books on this; I find the topic fascinating.

I imagine even people who have only a passing interest in the topic, or know little to nothing about it, would find this is very absorbing.
