^^^

You sure do know your Captain Smiths, Barry.  :)

I decided to list the actors that played Captain Smith in the movies I've seen about the Titanic.  Each portrayed Smith differently, from frantic to calm, decisive and resolved.

Thanks; I'll watch it as soon as I dig my way out of the stacks of paper on my desk. If I ever do.  roll:)

There's been no definitive answer on what happened to him. Passenger accounts vary widely, and if I recall correctly the only officers who survived (Lightoller, Boxhall, Pitman, and Lowe) were too busy lowering or manning lifeboats to really notice. Actually, Boxhall, Pitman, and Lowe were all out manning lifeboats.

It was in In Night and Ice that Captain Smith was shown saving a passenger but refusing to be brought into the lifeboat himself stating that he was the captain and would go down with his ship.

I left out the TV production of A Night To Remember broadcast by The Kraft Television Theatre on March 28, 1956...

Narrated by Claude Rains, his introduction was interesting in that he mentions an 1898 fiction novel by Morgan Robertson called The Wreck Of The Titan or Futility which literally prophesied the events which would occur fourteen years later.  Twilight Zone, huh?

I'd like to believe how Captain Smith was portrayed at the end of In Night and Ice, that he rescued a passenger in the water and got him over to a lifeboat but declined assistance to be lifted into the boat himself.  That movie was based on reports given by surviving passengers and crew and released just four months after the disaster.

Okay.  After much thought on the matter, I still feel that First Officer William Murdoch, Captain Edward Smith and Bruce Ismay were the three individuals most responsible for the disaster:

First Officer William Murdoch because he gave an inappropriate maneuvering order to avoid collision with the iceberg while he had the conn

Captain Edward Smith because of his complacency during this maiden voyage.  Full responsibility for the souls on board a ship rests with the Captain.  Ice warnings should have been a priority concern that night.  He should have shut down the Titanic's engines that
night as did other Captains-in-Command on their respective vessels.

   J. Bruce Ismay because of his interference during the crossing.  He might have been chairman and managing director of the White Star Line but he was nothing more than a passenger on this voyage.  Information shouldn't have been shared with
him and any recommendations he had should not have been listened to.

I'm going to regret asking this, but. . . If Ismay was "nothing more than a passenger," then why do you have such a problem with the fact that he got into a lifeboat? Several first-class men did.

I don't think you'll regret my answer, Kathy.  And yes, several first-class men got into lifeboats.  The places those first-class men and Ismay took in the lifeboats should have gone to women and children.  Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I'm a firm believer in that.  That gesture is the most sacred thing one can do in life.  There were a number of fathers who saw to it that their wives and children got into a lifeboat while they stayed behind on board.

And it can work both ways.  Ida Straus' decision to stay with her husband is another sacred act.  From the standpoint of their religion, there is no higher form of being when we pass from this world.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree, Barry.  :)

Also, Steven Spielberg executive produced the goofy but appealing (to me) the "I Wanna Hold Your Hand."  :)

That movie was great!

A few years later, the team of Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale brought us Back To The Future.

Saw Bullet Train with Brad Pitt.

Very silly but fun enough. You need to be ok with Tarantino-levels of violence. Seems it’s trying to be a Tarantino or Guy Ritchie film. Doesn’t quite get there but there’s worse ways to spend two hours.

Watched Elvis, really good, very sad at the end seeing the real Elvis near to his death.
Parker was indeed a horrible bloke. I always wondered why Elvis just stayed in America.

Filmed here on the Gold Coast !

Been rewatching Mr. Mercedes Season 1, Episode 6. Good memories.

I enjoyed S1, but gave up on S2, it got too weird for me.

While searching for Susie Q videos on YouTube, I came across this 1996 Disney Channel movie called Susie Q...

The ghost of a girl who died in 1955 appears to a troubled teen living in her old house.

I thought it was very good and I even got a bit misty at the end.  I love this genre of movies.

Watched a space movie called Ad Astra with Brad Pitt.

Enjoyed it, great visuals, bit slow in parts but I don't mind that. 7/10
