I'm sure your ex would appreciate any support you could offer during this tough time, KE, even if it is just, as ibanez_ax said, being a friend and simply "there" for him.

I hope that young lady (with organ failure) gets better.  :-\

Thank you ibanez_ax and Normandie, I just feel so helpless. She is on the mend, well at least she was yesterday afternoon but its too early to say anything. He is not taking it well but there are people around him who are taking care of him. I just wish I could do more but I know there is nothing I can do

Don't underestimate the power of prayer or positive thoughts; whichever you call them. They can really help. I'm mustering up big on that front right now for my friend who is starting 6 months of heavy-duty treatment for hepatitis C. It's sad to think of people suffering but we aren't really as helpless as we might feel. That speaks well of you that you care so much!

a few months ago my landlord said 'I know your particular'. I'm not sure exactly what he meant but I didn't like it it and I just wish I'd have replied. 'OH! Am I? Well you're pretty particualr about accumulating money aren't you? Why don't you be a bit less particular about how much f***in' rent you charge me?'
