James McCartney - The Complete EP
« on: February 23, 2012, 10:24:36 PM »

I just listened to at least some of this (I will get to that in a minute). I think it is pretty good. It isn't something I would listen to all of the time, but definitely what I would call worthwhile. His vocals are very different from Dad. If he didn't have Paul's looks and the McCartney name, I would never know it was Paul's son.

The instrumentation is mostly good. There is one song where the vocals get a little out of control and become unpleasant. (See Todd, I can say something not glowingly positive.) I think his rendition of "Old Man" is pretty good and as his vocals are actually a little bit like Neil Young, it is a good cover version, but not as good as the original. I wonder if he did that song for Paul. "Old Man, look at me now, I'm a lot like you..."

I don't own this disc and actually would like to. I listened to it from www.mplcommunications.com. There is a banner on the top of the page that rotates. You will have to pause the player that is playing "Kisses On The Bottom", and click on the banner when James comes up to listen. Give it a listen and then come back and tell us what you thought.

I enjoyed Angel, but couldn't get into the other songs that much.

Its not bad. I too think 'Angel' is the best song. I really like the music to 'Glisten', but not a fan of James' vocals. 'My Friend' and 'Denial' are alright, but nothing great. 'Old Man' is cool, but i'll take the original. Again, its decent.
