TOS gets picked on for being "cheesy" but there's something about it that's so special. I love the characters and their chemistry with each other, the thoughtful dialogue and stories, and the whimsical costumes and settings. And somehow it does manage to be intriguing and cerebral without drowning its viewers in excessive technobabble.
Well put, Penny Lane. I hate technobabble!
eg...
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: If we could get to the root command, we can introduce an invasive programing sequence through its bio-chip system, and then return it to the
hive.
Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge: The Borg are so inter-connective, it would work like a virus.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Which would infect the entire collective. We could disable their neural network at a stroke.
Doctor Beverly Crusher: Infect it? You make it sound as if it's a disease.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Quite right, Doctor. If all goes well, a terminal one.
Gimme this any day:
Dr. McCoy: That's right, and in this derivative, mixed with alcohol it merely deadens certain nerve inputs to the brain.
Scott: Oh, well, any decent blend of Scotch'll do that.
Dr. McCoy: Oh? Well, one good slug of this, and you could hit a man with phaser stun, and he'd never feel it, or even know it.
Scott: Does it make a good mix with Scotch?
