Dr. Robert Freymann was the New York doctor you're referring to.  Barry Miles elaborated on Paul's statements regarding Doctor Robert in his biography Paul McCartney  Many Years From Now (see my citation in the introduction).

Yes you're right of course. I got my Roberts mixed up. Plus the fact that where I come from a dentist isn't a doctor but a surgeon.

Mind you, my dentist has never given me LSD!

I never really understood why Dr Robert always gets lows scores in polls. I've always liked the song. It has a steady beat and builds up nicely.

I love the way they loosen up and let their hair down on this one. It's very tongue in cheek. No profound lyrics, ominous, thundering war drums, searing sitars or majestic orchestrals here. But a kind of funky, irresistibly elastic beat and those typically groovy Lennon tempo-shifts which make it a joy to tap into. Undervalued, I feel.
