A Hard Day's Night
« on: October 16, 2006, 08:19:13 AM »

After listening to the beatles later works for quite some time I decided to put in A Hard Day's Night. Now I have to say this in my opinion is the most underrated album that they did. It is just good catchy music from start to finish.  :) Love it!

The fact that most of the songs were written while between here and there gives this Lp a totally different sound then previous ones!

I used to like it quite a lot but now I don't listen to it very often.. It has some great songs on it but it hasn't been hitting me in the same way the later stuff has. As for being an underrated album, I don't really think it is. It was very popular when it was released and it's still on people's favorites lists today. It's that good.

It's definatly no underrated. Especially because of the movies. I think its a good album, it has a few songs I don't care for.

Yeah, there is no doubt that their later works are their top class stuff. However, after not listening to the early stuff in yonks listening to it was refreshing. I also think its the album where they all sound so happy from start to finish and it's hard not to sing a long with it.

It's a hard album for me to judge because its old and its music belongs to another era. I accept it for the genius masterwork that it is, but its not something I'd throw on the turntablre too often. And its all a bit shrill.

I still listen to it on a regular basis it seems. You would be hard pressed to find a stronger album from the first song to the last. That includes the Beatles other albums too.

Yeah there is only one song that I could do without, which is I'll Cry Instead.

Yeah there is only one song that I could do without, which is I'm Happy Just To Dance With You. I always skip it. It might have been if George hadn't done the leadvocals, but it's not a good song imo anyway.

'Tell Me Why' is my least favorite. Those high pitched background vocals are a joke. Sounds like they got kicked in the balls trying to sing that part.

Exactly.It's a fun album.They weren't taking themselves too seriously.
For me it's one of their great albums, up there with Pepper and Abbey.

I always laugh when I hear those high pitched vocals. But I thought they just couldn't get it right.

I totally agree! I couldn't even decipher what they were singing when I first heard it!!

When I was a kid I saw AHDN on tv on Boxing Day (the day after Xmas day) - and then later on I was delighted to discover the LP lurking in my Mum and Dad's record collection!!

I duly liberated it and totally fell in love with "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You"... despite the fact that the needle got stuck on "I don't wanna kiss or hold your handkiss or hold your handkiss or hold your handkiss or hold your hand..."

Anyway, I later cleaned it with luke-warm water and vinegar and it all played fine in the end... and I still have that battered up LP in my collection to this day!!! ;D

It's the first album I bought...so, why shouldn't I like it? I'm really glad I bought it, really. Great album.

Is it underated? I've never thought so. I thought most people thought of AHDN as the first 'great' Beatles album.
