Paul's bass line for I'm Looking Through You was magnificent.  Indeed, it was a melody line of its own...

This guy can't play bass like that so he resorts to playing an acoustic six-string guitar....

I was thinking earlier tonight how much fun it is to sing along with Paul’s bass.  :)

Like Mozart, he was playing "too many notes."  Seriously, critics have scorched him over the years: his bass playing is too busy.  I disagree with that because he plays just what the songs need.  What I think is happening is that he's not relearning these songs note-for-note.  And what he's doing is not bad--it works for me.

Ive never heard this before, I only ever read praise for his bass playing, do you have any examples of critics saying these things ?

I wish I could point out particular articles, but I can't.  I do remember reading something even recently when the Sgt. Pepper box came out, but I can't remember which article said it.  And that's not the first time I've read such criticisms of his work on Pepper.  I'm in awe of his bass playing--which inspired me to start playing the bass when I was 12 years old--I'm 55 now and still aspire to come up with bass lines half as excellent as what McCartney plays.
