Billy Shepherd
« on: February 07, 2018, 08:06:05 PM »

I'm not saying I believe in the Paul is Dead theory. Just wanted to mention something weird. Apparently the name of the man who replaced Paul in 1966 (IF you believe that) was named Billy Shepherd. Also, I've heard him known as William Shears Campbell. So I just realized this yesterday: a Billy Shepherd is the author of this Beatles book. Kind of strange. Why is he so hard to look up online, too? I have this book and hope there's an "about the author" section, I'll have to check when I get home. I want to say there's not though. Feel free to comment your thoughts, whatever they may be.

Billy Shepherd was actually a pseudonym for Peter Jones, a British journalist etc. who died in 2015 at the age of 85. He also turns up under that name as a writer for the Beatles Book monthly. I don’t know how his name found its way into the whole Paul is Dead business!

Peter Jones was also a ghostwriter.  It's entirely possible, and even probable, that he wrote the book for Billy Shepherd.

The plot thickens.   ;)

Peter Jones was also a ghostwriter.

Well. That clinches it.

Thanks everyone for the info! I had no idea it was a pseudonym.

I really wonder how the name Billy Shepherd (aka Billy Shears, apparently) became associated with "Paul is Dead". If you Google the name Billy Shepherd, Paul is Dead stuff comes up, claiming Billy is the replacement. To make matters even more confusing, Billy Pepper and the Pepper Pots band comes up too. Who is this other Billy Shepherd (not the book author's pseudonym), if he even exists?? All this Paul is Dead stuff is very confusing. I've been digging into it lately just because it's weird and interesting.

Perhaps Thomas E. Uharriet is another ghostwriter...

I discovered that book the other day but am scared to read it! Lol. What if it sways me.

What's interesting is that the table of contents (which I saw from the "look inside" button on Amazon) has a chapter called "Most Importantly", and it begins on page 666! Coincidence? I think not....lol. Also, the website billyshears.com openly says that some of the book is fictional. Why would they do that when their goal is to prove Paul died? Or is the book purposely a joke? Very odd.

It was fake Paul on the cover of Pepper
Look at the picture above (HG's post) from the album cover, Paul is a good 2" taller than John

yet Paul himself said him and John were the same height.

Quote from Paul regarding the film Nowhere Boy;

‘I haven’t actually seen it, but I hear I’m OK in it. But you know what I’m slightly peeved about? My character, my actor, is shorter than John!’ he laughs. ‘And I don’t like that! I’m the same size as John, please. Put John in a trench! Or put me in platforms!’

Kevin is referring to this post which I was editing while he posted:

Well, here's another clue for you all...

That's American author Stephen Crane whose right hand appears over Paul's head.  Noted for his Civil War novel The Red Badge Of Courage, he also wrote the short story The Open Boat...

...a story about his experience of surviving a shipwreck off the coast of Florida in 1897 while traveling to Cuba to work as a newspaper correspondent.  The ship he was on, the SS Commodore, sank after hitting a sandbar.  He and three other men were forced to navigate their way to shore in a small boat.  One of the men, an oiler named Billie Higgins, drowned after the boat overturned.

Four men started the journey, but only three finished.
