I've been watching Netflix's 1899 series. A Twilight Zone–ish plot, the Gilded Age, and an ocean liner. What a great combination!  icon_cool

Dead Man

A strange western. A young Johnny Depp stars. It's kinda  4ac

Black & White. Maybe it's meant as a send up to westerns.

Saw Wakanda Forever.  Not bad. It had touching tributes to Chadwick Boseman. As for the film…. Meh. Ok.   Maybe I’ve reached Marvel overload. At least it steered clear of their tiresome multiverse stuff. But it lacks the humour and lightness of the best Marvel films.

I watched recently on Netflix. Liked it. Though the first two seasons of Dark is much better.

That one looks interesting; maybe I'll check it out next.

All The Old Knives.
2022

Pretty run of the mill spy drama. A spy drama of the quiet kind, no guns, car chases, action etc. (weird title).
Not bad, not great. Chris Pine playing the sex symbol a bit too much.

Watched a number of Westerns recently. Escapism from covid  :-\

The Searchers
1956
John Wayne

Very highly rated but I thought the direction was a bit disjointed. Epic though. 7/10

Nevada Smith
1966
Steve McQueen

Great film, revenge flick. SM is awesome, good story 7.5/10

Uzana's Raid
1972
Burt Lancaster

Superb western. I really liked this one 8.5/10

Posse

1975

Produced, directed and starring Kirk Douglas.

Not a bad Western, not a classic by any means but Kirk does a reasonable job all round. Although the supporting actor steals the show imo.

You've been watching a lot of westerns there, pardner.  I watched The Gunfighter (1950) again a few weeks ago...

"The addicts of Western fiction may find themselves rubbing their eyes and sitting up fast to take notice before five minutes have gone by in Twentieth Century Fox's The Gunfighter, which came to the Roxy yesterday. For suddenly they will discover that they are not keeping company with the usual sort of hero of the commonplace Western at all. Suddenly, indeed, they will discover that they are in the exciting presence of one of the most fascinating Western heroes as ever looked down a six-shooter's barrel."

The New York Times   Bosley Crowther   June 24, 1950

Gregory Peck's performance, as always, was brilliant.

Everest (2015). Great movie, although I was glad to watch it while safely curled up in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine.  ;)

Glass Onion. Pretty silly. Seems to be a good movie in there somewhere but the ending was dumb. I think Knives Out was better.  At least the end credits had the Beatles.

I've been wondering what the Beatles connection was.

Rio Lobo
1970

Western starring John Wayne, Jack Elam, Jennifer O'Niell.
Not in the same league as Howard Hawks' masterpiece Rio Bravo, or the excellent El Dorado, Rio Lobo is still an overall good western. I love Jack Elam, great actor.

I've been wondering what the Beatles connection was.

The Edward Norton character has an island mansion called the Glass Onion named after the bar where he and his knob head friends met. So Beatle-wise it’s pretty tenuous. Maybe they wanted an excuse to use the song in the end credits.

That’s a very heavy film I recall. I found the end a little trite but undoubtedly it’s an epic.  And the Duke at his peak.

The Banshees Of Inisherin
2022

The same 2 actors as In Bruges, Farrell and Gleason.

very quirky film, ok but didn't think it was anywhere near as good as In Bruges.
