In 1960 the Beatles were just a struggling high-school rock band, like thousands of others, when they were invited to play in Hamburg. Hamburg was not a place of high-class music venues, but rather it had an assortment of seedy nightclubs sitting alongside strip clubs and other dubious nightspots.

Classic rock meets classical pop in Beatles-and-orchestra concert

Like many rock musicians, singer-guitarist Jim Owen grew up loving the Beatles. Unlike many rock musicians, he grew up studying classical piano.The two passions came together in 1996 when Owen, a veteran of "Beatlemania" tours, came up with the idea of performing Beatles songs backed by an orchestra.

Original works by Frank Zappa and The Beatles to be offered at Philip Weiss Auctions

OCEANSIDE, NY.- A painting done collectively by all four Beatles when the band was on tour in Japan in 1966, plus original artwork by rock legend Frank Zappa and contracts and a black leather jacket from the late rapper Biggie Smalls (aka “The Notorious B.I.G”) will headline a three-day auction extravaganza scheduled for Sept. 13-15 by Philip Weiss Auctions.
