Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper. Dylan made a similar leap at the same time with Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61, Blonde On Blonde, and the unissued Basement Tapes. It must have been a great time to be buying records.  :)

I'm the only one who didn't say Rubber Soul to Pepper, because, IMO:

1) I like Rubber Soul lots more than Pepper, so it was going in the wrong direction.

I voted Beatles for Sale >> Help >> Rubber Soul, because Beatles for Sale is near the bottom in my book, and Rubber Soul is near the top.

Help >> Rubber Soul >> Revolver would come a close 2nd in my book.

Beatles For Sale- Help!- Revolver

I think those are the biggest difference in soungd. By the time of Rubber Soul to Revolver they were pretty creative with the sound and it wasn't to different. So as far as progression I think these albums so the most change.

you put in your poll that Magical Mystery Tour came out after "The Beatles." It actually came out exactly one year before it...a few months after Sgt. Peppers. good idea for a poll though. Revolver-Pepper's for me

Help!-Rubber Soul-Revolver

I think Help! is a rather weak album (sorry if I'm offending anyone), Rubber Soul is a big progression and Revolver is simply - if you can say that - incredibly good. When The Beatles recorded Revolver they were free of the strains of touring and could really focus on recording music. Which they did in every way imaginable considering the limited technology of the time. A magnificent progression in just one year.

Actually, Revolver was recorded under quite a bit of pressure, as a new album and single was needed before they went to Germany and Japan in June '66. That was followed by The Philippines, and a final tour of America, up until the end of August. They were far from finished with touring when Revolver recorded.

Beatles For Sale-Help!-Rubber Soul.  Just because listening to Beatles For Sale, I could have NEVER imagined Rubber Soul.  The progression from Beatles For Sale to Rubber Soul is amazing.  I look at the leaps taken during the Rubber Soul-Revolver-Sgt. Pepper's period as kind of a natural evolution.  Either one has a valid case.

I think The Beatles started expanding their music on Help! if you really listen. The difference from their style of the older albums to Help! changed greatly. From Help! to Rubber Soul to Revolver I'd say was the greatest progression though, since each album they were getting better and better (also Rubber Soul and Revolver are my fav. albums from them).

Beatles For Sale-Help!-Rubber Soul. They began to write a lot more of their own material and forgot covers and the lyrics were improving all the time along with the sounds, music and instruments and different kind of styles of music.

Rubber Soul - Revolver - Sgt. Pepper

They have everything. Sitar, backwards playing, Paul is dead, pop to psychedelic.
