After a long string of disappointing novels, I stumbled across two ones that I really loved: Bath Haus by P. J. Vernon and Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant. The latter in particular was a pleasant surprise; it's reminiscient of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's earlier works.

I also really enjoyed All Together Now by Matthew Norman. One of the characters is a big Beatles fan. Always nice to see the Fab Four mentioned in any capacity.

Back to my strait-laced current editorial project, which isn't nearly as much fun.  :)

That’s a disadvantage of a kindle. No matter how many books I buy all I have is a thin bit of plastic.

I'm beginning to think a Kindle may be a good idea. I haven't done an actual count, but I do believe the number of books I own exceeds the number of clothing items and food products on my shelves.  :-\

I don’t like reading for long periods on a phone or iPad. Might be the brightness of the screen. My main reason for liking the kindle is the display is really easy on the eyes. Pretty much like reading on paper.

Just watched a similar miniseries to The Terror, called The North Water. Amazing story.

I tracked the book down, and it's great as well. Gives a clearer explanation of the protagonist's backstory. I was a bit confused about parts of it in the movie, perhaps I missed something.

I read Of Mice and Men last weekend.  I found my paperback edition on my bookshelf and couldn't resist...

I read Pattie Boyd's and Chris O'Dell's autobiographies recently.  I enjoyed both of them.

It's a shame the way Pattie and George broke up but even sadder is her taking up with Eric Clapton.

Just what I always wanted!   ;D

Did you ever notice how they cast the slimiest looking actors to play the role of Ismay in the movies?

No, I never did. I thought Jonathan Hyde (from Camerons' film) was a spitting image, though. Ditto Victor Garber as Thomas Andrews and pretty much all of the nonfiction cast.

I loved Pattie Boyd's autobiography. She seems like a genuinely kind person.

What makes you say that, Loco? I'm just curious, not trying to challenge you.

I agree, Kathy.  Cameron's team found actors that closely resembled the characters they played.

This was a poignant moment in that film.  The steerage girl at 2:59 would not have known who Ismay was yet she looked squarely at him and mumbled something, probably an expletive...

You're so hard on the poor guy, Barry!  ;)

I know ANTR is supposed to be very accurate—Fourth Officer Boxhall was a consultant, an advantage no other movie had—but numerous eyewitness testimony contradicts a scene of a mad rush to the lifeboats at the time Ismay got into one. In contrast, most of the passengers refused to leave the ship, and for most of the evening the decks were virtually deserted.

Kathy, the only reading I've done on this subject is A Night To Remember.  Of course I've seen the 1958 movie too as well as Titanic (1953).  I've only seen the fan-edited 1997 Titanic movie leaving out the Rose and Jack stuff.

Ismay isn't the only one to rag on.  Other captains in the area that night ordered their ships to stop for the night.  Morse code warning signals were not given proper priority on the Titanic.  Captain Smith saw what conditions were like before he went off to his cabin.  He knew there were icebergs in the area and they would be difficult to see on a still sea.  But did he use common sense and order his ship stopped?  No.  He had his ship continue on at nearly full speed, the idiot.  The captain on a ship is responsible for the safety, and lives, of all souls on board.  He was clearly derelict in his responsibility.

Ismay looked like a slime mold and so the movie makers shot some good scenes of him behaving like one...
