Rods first four solo albums are excellent. Every Picture Tells A Story is one of my favourite albums.

He's got better albums than most people think ...

Well, it's a matter of opinion of course, but I think after 'Smiler' it's all sh*te!

^ sure it's a matter of taste and opinion, but my favourite albums at the moment are "Smiler"  :) and "Gasoline Alley" - very much like his 70s stuff. He's an underestimated singer and performer

Gasoline Alley is excellent. I do think he sold his soul to the American market with Atlantic Crossing, and never turned back.

Why are they so underrated? Especially this one:

What an incredible talent. I can't believe how his life ended. Playing crap bars hawking his latest CD. How the hell does something like that even end up happening??? Bums me out. :-/

Anyone ever see Festival Express when Joplin hangs all over him and as drunk or as high as he is he STILL looks mortified! Poor woman.

The classic band stuff is great, but the Jericho album in 1991 (with Rick, Garth and Levon) is still pretty damned strong.  Great vocals by Rick and Levon on "Blind Willie McTell"--one of the best Dylan covers ever.  Danko was one helluva of bass player too.  The live stuff like "Rock of Ages" is incredible.

yeah, it's a pity.
At least he sang a Macca song  :), think it's on "Smiler" and it's called "Mine for me".

Happy belated to Rod, he turned 62 yesterday.

I should check it out. I get in and out of the Band's music. They do fascinate me though. Their whole history and what they did at the time they did it.
