A band of the 60s
« on: November 28, 2008, 08:21:25 PM »

I know very little about the 60s` bands though I am aquainted with some pop singers of the decade. And reading some of the posts here where you mention so many groups I got very much interested. Could you recommend the best (to your mind) 60`s band and their album for me to listen to? Thanks in advance!

Try some of these,perhaps:    Aftermath-Rolling Stones

                                           Small Faces-Small Faces(Decca)

                                            Face to Face-Kinks.

You might want to start off with compilations of these groups

Thanks python! I think I know what Rolling Stones of the 60s may be like but I know nothing about Small Faces or Kinks. I am really keen on learning more about the 60s bands which were typical of the times, great but vanished. Thank you!  :)

Great suggestions, and Python's albums are good ones, too. You might try rummaging around on a site like Allmusic as well.   :)

When i bought the new Fireman album the other day Jane in HMV , i noticed that "The Bee Gees" first three albums from the 60's have been remastered and reissued in de-luxe edition's.
1. Bee Gees First (1967)
2. Horizontal (1968)
3. Idea (1968)
You get the orginal album remasterd and a second disc of unreleased material from the period , these look like really interesting albums from the time .
I'm thinking i might buy these three albums .(smile)

Two albums I can't speak highly enough of are 'SF Sorrow' by The Pretty Things, and 'Odessy and Oracle' by The Zombies.

Agree.

I would also buy the Vanilla Fudge's greatest hits, aka music to be catatonic by.

Yes, but I have been tempted by the others into looking closer at the decade.  It seems to have been really fascinating! I can`t help but yield to the temptation...

Everybody writes about the Kinks, Small Faces, so this should be the choice.  :)

Yes, DaveRam, the Bee Gees may be interesting. I know only their Massachusetts (can never learn the spelling of the word!) But the song is great! The songs during their revival period are known to have been very popular but hard to listen to now for a long time, just a bit, as far as I am concerned. What do you think of the band`s later songs?
