I watch a lot of non English films.

Just watched one, Swedish movie called ..Let the Right One in.
I thought it was absolutely brilliant... if you get chance to see it do so, it's classed as a horror film but it's much more than that.

^^^^

That one's been on my radar for awhile, Kevin; I'll have to check it out.

I see it's classified on iMDB as "horror/romance." That's quite a combination.  ha2ha

Just downloaded 1953 Titanic, the Webb/Stanwyck one, to replace my DVD. This is probably my favorite Titanic movie, although by far the least accurate. Several of the male historians on the ocean liner lists who have sons have confirmed that the scene when Norman transitions from a young man's short pants to a grown-up, long-pants suit is very touching. Not being a father, I wouldn't know.  ;) But Clifton Webb is fantastic in this one.  :)

"He's not your son."  And the cabin door slowly closes as she leaves.  What drama!

Yes, Clifton Webb was superb in this movie.

Awesome car chase.

Nah!  The best car chases were in The Blues Brothers...

Indeed! I love when Annette, the daughter, greets a family friend on the Nomadic in French, and Barbara Stanwyck cuts in sardonically, "She means 'Hello'."

Also when Robert Wagner's character tosses his cap into the air in glee, only to land among chunks of ice floating on the ocean's surface. Oooh!

All the actors were perfectly cast!  Audrey Dalton (gorgeous!) as Annette, a cold fish at first, warmed up beautifully.  Barbara Stanwyck was superb.  Robert Wagner, early in his career, proved he could act.  And Thelma Ritter played a perfect Maude Young.  I wonder why they didn't call her Molly Brown.

Yes, Harry, I found him.  He's my son.

That was my favorite scene.

I'm rewatching all Tarantino films.

Death Proof is really great. Awesome car chase.

I got through them. Just finished Django.
I can't really choose a favourite film of his as I love them all, for me it's a bit like trying to choose a favourite Beatles album.
What I have found with Tarantino films is that when you rewatch them they get much better.
For example I just rewatched Death Proof, now a lot of people didn't rate that film but if you rewatch it it gets 10 times better especially the third time... but leave 6 months in between viewings.
Death Proof is an absolutely amazing film with some great performances from the cast especially Kurt Reynolds, the whole thing in my opinion is it's underlying humour and poignant take on life generally, its hilarious. The dialogue between the girls is so captivating.
I never knew I liked the song jeepster by T-Rex until watching Death Proof.
You can see that humour in all these films in my opinion.
That line of Brad Pitt's in Once Upon, "your Rick f****** Dalton don't ever forget that"

For me he is without doubt the greatest film-maker ever. I just can't choose a favourite, I suppose my favourite is the one I just rewatched :)

And Thelma Ritter played a perfect Maude Young.  I wonder why they didn't call her Molly Brown.

The folks on the ocean liner lists have speculated about that for years. They also noted that in every Titanic film (at least, every major one) she gets the line "Why do they always announce dinner like it's a damn calvary charge?" Or something to that effect.

One other 1953 Titanic–Twilight Zone connection is that the poem Barbara Stanwyck reads to Robert Wagner ("When I Was One and Twenty" by A. E. Houseman) is the same one Donald Pleasence reads to his class in that touching episode "Changing of the Guard" that I mentioned last New Year's.

Yes, Harry, I found him.  He's my son.

That was my favorite scene.

I always get weepy at that part.

You do make a good case for trying Tarantino again. The violence in most of his films is too much for me. The last one I tried was Inglourious Basterds, and I was cringing so much I had to turn it off. But perhaps I'll try another one, given your glowing reviews.

Tarantino films aren't for everyone Kathy, my wife doesn't like them, too violent.
His latest Once Upon a time in Hollywood, only gets violent at the end. With Manson's hippie friends, that bit is hilarious.
Try that one.

Ah, I'm not alone, then.  :)  Good to know.

I've been meaning to watch that one for awhile. As soon as I get a block of time long enough to relax and enjoy it, I will.

Not a movie per se, but I've been watching the Peacock series Dr. Death, the true story of Dr. Christopher Duntsch. I've read so much about this story online. It's a pleasure to see the characters brought to life, so to speak. (The odious Alec Baldwin notwithstanding  roll:)  )

So far, I'd recommend it.

"Separation," the latest selection for my biweekly dinner-and-a-movie with my younger daughter and Bear. We pick a different scary movie each time.

It was awful! Such a disappointment. The trailer looked great, but the movie itself was not only not scary but in fact boring. By the end we were both on our phones.  ha2ha
