A Beatles VR experience
« on: September 26, 2021, 12:10:27 PM »

My friends and I were talking the other day about virtual reality (VR) experiences vis-à-vis gaming and, in my case, the VR option for Britannic: Patronness of the Mediterranean and the forthcoming Titanic: Honor and Glory. And one of them mentioned how great it would be to "attend" a Beatles concert this way, which made me wonder whether any options for this are available.

I found this, but it's dated 2016, and I couldn't find anything more recent:

I also found this option, but this isn't the Beatles and so in my opinion doesn't hold that much appeal:

From what I have read, back in the early to mid-1960s the technology was not sufficiently developed to record footage that would enable a VR experience. So that's disappointing.

I also noticed that Paul is involved in a VR app. Has anyone heard of this? It looks great:

I suspect this is going to get more and more common. I see ABBA is doing their reunion tour using “ABBatars” rather than them being on stage themselves. Although at least they did the original filming for the VR to be overlayed onto.

It hasn’t been something that’s interested me hugely but if you look at it as just an enhanced audio and visual experience, like seeing the ultimate movie of a concert, the it could be alright I think.

Along similar lines is this video Beck and Paul McCartney have done for their collaboration on Paul’s recent song off McCartney 3. It’s not Paul in the video of course, just some actor with a CGI overlay of Paul circa 1965.

ABBA was to the 70s as The Beatles were to the 60s.  Both groups have numerous tribute bands who have been very popular and successful.

think a Beatles VR reunion concert would go over very well.  Maybe Paul will come up with something suitable.  It's been more than half a century since the Rooftop Concert.

Even with 2009's technology and CGI, this commercial was made...

I was thinking more along the lines of wearing a VR device and feeling like you are actually in, for example, Shea Stadium or the Cavern Club, among the crowd, sort of like in the clip Moogmodule posted, as opposed to just a CGI Beatles show.

I love this! "Paul" has some pretty great dance moves.  :)

I reckon that could work. I think the potential of VR is just being touched on now.

Well, here's another way to market the Beatles.  What's next?
