My vote goes to "In My Life," but why not include all of the songs as options (you are allowed up to 15 possibilities in these polls)

True. But I think the origin from this poll is from 2004 and it wasn't possible then.

You know, I think mine is Norwegian Wood. It's a tough call, though.

"Nowhere Man". The harmonies and the mood get me every time.

I love 'Drive My Car', and especially 'The Word', but the vote has to go to 'Nowhere Man'.

One of my favorites too!

Of course there's the famous story about this song, when Paul and George were doing the background vocals to John's middle eight/chorus, George Martin asked them what exactly they were singing in harmony there, it sounded a bit naughty, and they innocently protested "Oh, no Mr. Martin, we're singing "tOOt, tOOt, tOOt, tOOt"!

But I also like John's "It's Only Love", for a few reasons - one of them is that it has one of my favorite lines in pop music, just because it somehow got passed the censors:

"It's so hard, loving you"  ;)

I've been listening to that song for the best part of 30 years, and that's never ever occurred to me! I wish I could say this proves how innocent I am, but it would only be a downright lie.

Anyway, I think I'd choose "In My Life" if my arm was twisted, but I wish "If I Needed Someone" had at least been included in the list.

This poll was set up in 2004. In those ancient times this forum only had a maximum of six or seven options. It's more now.  :)

Ah, I see now. Thanks for the explanation. I never looked at the first post, just the last one.

Hi Choking Smoker - I think John kind of liked getting away with that, and then tried to push the envelope even further. Have you ever thought about that line on his song "It's So Hard" (Imagine): "You know it's hard, it's oh so hard, sometimes I feel like ... going down".

I can just imagine him chuckling for weeks about that one ...

You do realise I'm now going to start finding innuendo everywhere in his songs? Hopefully I won't post every "discovery" though  ;D But it could be an idea for a new thread...

After a bit of head-scratching, I picked Norwegian Wood.  It's a song you can fall into and get lost in. Very textured, both lyrically and aurally.  In my life has a place in my heart, as does Girl, so was a difficult one.

Man, this is hard.. after about 15 minutes of contemplating over it I think it would be In My Life. Girl is a very close second though!
