Well... That's Fine, it's not my fav but SFF is certainly magnificent.  I think that I Feel Fine or Getting Better are the best now that i've put some serious thought even though I voted for In My Life.

As promised, the final installment of Trivia Corner.

Every song received votes in both the 'Best', and 'Worst' categories. The first time that this has happened in the competition.

Of the 14 finalists, only 3 were sung by Paul, though he only had 2 in the 'worst' category.

In fact John seems to be the favourite singer, and the least favourite, with 8 songs in the final, and 9 in the 'worst'! John had two thirds of the first placed songs in Phase one, together with two thirds of the 'worst songs'!

Ringo placed just once, with 'What Goes On' which was voted 'worst' song on Rubber Soul.

Hey Jude finished second, but if the final songs had been selected after Phase One, it wouldn't have made the cut!

Positions after Phase 1. Including percentage of votes received:
01. I Am The Walrus   31.16%
02. In My Life   30.43%
03. I Saw Her Standing There   28.26%
04. Strawberry Fields Forever   27.53%
05. It Won't Be Long   26.92%
06. A Day In The Life   24.7%
07. Please Please Me   23.91%
08. All My Loving   23.07%
09. While My Guitar Gently Weeps   23.2%
10. A Hard Day's Night   21.93%
11. I Feel Fine   21.66%
12. Here Comes The Sun   21.01%
13. Let It Be   20.45%
14. Rain   20.45%

The lowest placed song after Phase 1, to make it to the final was Nowhere Man at 41st place, climbing 37 places to 4th!

The Highest ranked song after Phase 1 not to make it to the final was the 5th placed 'It Won't Be Long'.

Only 9 songs that finished in the top 14 after Phase 1 made it to the final.

The positions after Phase II looked like this:
Strawberry Fields Forever   28.47%
I Am The Walrus   25.36%
In My Life   21.43%
A Day In The Life   20.29%
Rain   20.29%
Hey Jude   19.84%
While My Guitar Gently Weeps   17.39%
Here Comes The Sun   15.27%
Something   15.07%
Nowhere Man   13.04%
Paperback Writer   12.5%
I Feel Fine   12.31%
I Saw Her Standing There   12.31%
Ticket To Ride   11.59%

The biggest drop in the final was  'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', which slipped from 7th, to last place.

The biggest improvement was 'Nowhere Man' which rose 6 places to 4th.

In all there were 449 votes cast in the 'Best' category, at an average of 22.5 per round, for a total of 2,694 points.

The highest vote was for Revolver, which received 28. The lowest was With The Beatles, at 13.

Many thanks go to everyone that took the trouble to vote, but special thanks go to those that voted in every round:

As a footnote, Flaming Pie In The Sky donated  a massive 35% of her points to George Harrison, a man who performed/wrote only 10% of their output!! Such devotion to the cause is to be either admired, or pitied!!  ;)

You're welcome. I'm glad it's over!

I am surprised that WMGGW didn't score higher, given the support for George on this forum. I was generally surprised that the vote wasn't more even. The top 3 pretty much walked it, and were ahead all the way through.

the one thing that surprised me a lot was that mr moonlight is so unpopular, i think that song is awesome. and revolution 9 is the worst song although it's not even a song. poor thing. :-/

The thing that most surprised me was that 'When I Get Home' made it into the 'worst' final. I have a new semi-fondness for 'Revolution 9', having listened to it recently for the first time in about 30 years! I think it was actually quite brave for a band such as The Beatles to put something like that on an album. I had a simple rule for myself regarding the Wooden Spoon race. 'Rev 9' was out because I don't consider it a song. 'Maggie Mae' was out because it's really only an interlude on a soundtrack album. 'Sie Liebt Dich' is 'She Love's You' in German, still a good tune in my mind, and 'You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)' was thrown away on a b-side. Anything else that was deemed good enough for an album was fair game.

^ And as Mr Moonlight was a cover it means Only A Northern Song romps in as the worst Beatle original. There is a God.

I agree 100% with that. Also, I adore 'SFF' but it falls further down my list. All of this reflects the tastes of this particular group of people. Interesting to know it, I suppose, but we're all entitled to revere what we will in the end.

I love SFF too, but I'll vote the likes of Paperback Writer, and Nowhere Man ahead of it any day. It was interesting to see what people voted for, but in the end the Best and Worst songs were predictable. Some of the other finalists, less so.
