Podcast with Kenneth Womack about "Living the Beatles Legend"

I came across this earlier today and found it interesting:

One, perhaps trivial thing that jumped out at me is around 15:09 when Womack refers to George Martin as "a big fake." I wonder what he meant by that.

I wonder if he’s referring to Martin’s cultivated upper middle class accent which he adopted in the air fleet arm to fit in. He was originally a fairly poor Londoner and would have had the accent to match. Given his great books on GM I doubt he would have meant it in a very derogatory way.

That makes sense; thank you, Moogmodule. Yes, I didn't get the impression Womack was trying to disparage George.

I had no idea that George grew up poor. I always assumed he was raised in an upper class household, although now that I think about it, I'm not exactly sure why I made that assumption—perhaps because in the photos and videos I've seen he's always rather dressed up. I have Womack's two books on him on my Amazon wish list, and I am now itching to order one or both. My willpower when it comes to books (especially Beatles and ocean liner books) is quite weak. And one of them is only about $13. Arrrggggh.

Thanks for posting that video Kathy, I enjoyed watching it.
I agree with Moog, George's accent would be the thing he was on about, he wasn't middle class but aspired to be so. Hence his "fake" BBC (at that time) acquired accent.
