Where has this album been all my life?

If you love the Beatles then the Aerovons' Resurrection is a must-own album, recorded by an American band in Abbey Road studios using Beatles engineers in the tail-end of the sixties. Unreleased for over thirty years, RPM records finally released it last year.

Yes, some of the songs are blatant Lennon/McCartney rip-offs, but some are instant classics, such as World Of You and She's Not Dead.

Anyone else heard it?

Could you try and post some of there stuff.

I know of it since Tom Hartman, one of the band members, posts regularly on the rec.music.beatles newsgroup (where I usually hang).

He has gotten almost universal praise from all the Beatle maniacs over there (and on another board I frequent).  So I suppose I SHOULD listen to it one of these days.

I heard about them from another board also. Another band that was mentioned as well was the Vinyl Kings. They had a record called "A Little Trip" and I suppose that this is also good. I plan to check them both out.

Here's an interesting fact! In April 1969, The Aerovons were recording at Abbey Road Studios, and after the session they were shown to a room where they could store their instruments. The room was very small and stacked with drum and guitar cases which obviously belonged to other bands.

One day, curiosity got the better of their drummer Mike, and he decided to have a little rumage around the room. Then Mike taps Tom Hartman (lead singer/guitarist) on the shoulder and says "I think you'd better come and see this!".

Thanks PC! I discoverd this by accident and remembered the name from an old post. The Aerovons were HUGE Beatles fans, which is why they were recording at Abbey Road in the first place! Just imagine their surprise at finding that bass drum head!

A message from Tom Hartman of The Aerovons!

Thanks to Raphael and to CD Times for this glowing review of The Aerovons album. This kind of praise is very humbling.

It is a great relief to see our efforts from years back finally released, and an absolute honor to have people respond to it so enthusiastically.

I think most people begin their creative careers by emulating, as Brian Wilson did at first, basically put a rock beat to the Four Freshman sound. He obviously took that quite a bit further as time went on.

I would hope The Aerovons would have gone on to somewhat different things had they continued, but in reality, knowing myself, The Beatles genre influence would have always been a part of my music. Today,the music of groups like Fountains of Wayne, Oasis, Train, and many others show that The Beatles influence is indeed timeless.

Thanks to RPM for letting it out of the closet and for the super package design. Hopefully, there may be more to come.
